Is this jam close to Heathrow? Hmmmm? If air fares are low enough, I might just hop a plane. Never been to England.

Tele-Bob, sorry mate it's in the North East of England (about 250-300 miles). There might be a connecting flight from Heathrow/Gatwick up to Newcastle though.

You would certainly be much welcome if you decided to come along and I'm pretty sure we could help find somewhere to stay.

    EDIT:
You might also try Manchester or even Edinburgh airports

Check for Leeds/Gatwick airport too, Tele-Bob. I could probably meet you there, then from there get to Leeds train station, where I'm sure there's a Leeds to Newcastle service. I'll check now...

(Edit) Oh yeah, I've decided I've missed enough jams already, so I'll probably be at this one, if that's ok

(Another edit) I just checked the trains. There is indeed one to Newcastle station from Leeds, so if you can find a flight to Leeds airport then you're sorted

The train journey would be about two hours long

Re: Toonstock II - UK Jam

well, I'm out. $632 to Leeds. I think part of the expense is that the jam falls on our "Thanksgiving" weekend and the airlines all jack the prices. That is one of the most "travelled" weekends of the year. $632 is a little too dear.

Sorry about that Tele-Bob, it would have been great if you could have come over. Maybe when next we hold a jam down in the South of the UK it might be a more realistic option financially.

OK Lads - no-one forget now... send Tele-Bob an invite to the next UK jam

Thanks man. I've never been to England and would like to go some time. Jamming with the lot of you would have been most entertaining I'm sure. If the next jam is not on one of our holiday weekends, the airfare will be considerably less.

Come on, T-B. You sell one of your bikes and I'll sell...uh...I don't know...something...and we'll go rock their brains!

I haven't been to the UK since 1986. It would be great to go back...especially as, in a fashion, we speak the same language.

Annie - we'll make a point of it.....

Fenderboy/Tele-Bob/anyone else interested....... there is most definitely a standing invite to you all to attend any of our UK jams. maybe one of these days I'll actually get to one in the States too, but I think they count my playing as a dangerous weapon (seriously bad for your health) so I'd probably have to borrow a git-fiddle when I got there.

Re: Toonstock II - UK Jam

    I have an idea.
You UK TFF people could start a bit of a fundraiser to get one of us US TFF'ers over there (namely me).
One of us US'ers (namely me) could fly over, play a couple of tunes, like maybe three, then hand out pictures of Tele-Bob, etc., get accomodations for a few days in a nice B&B in Bloomsbury, get a couple show tickets thrown in, nice dinner....complimentary admission to the British Museum, a train ride to Dover so we could sit on the rocky shore...maybe a free ticket on the Chunnel Train and a few days in Paris.....and then on the return trip, one of us US'ers (namely me) could meet the queen???

    Good idea, huh?

Re: Toonstock II - UK Jam

Well FenderBoy, we could also put together a demo CD of "Paul Michael and the CT Recruits" and see if one of those blokes could land us a couple gigs at the local pubs where we'd be paid to play and host the UK TFF Jam. The money would offset our travel expenses and the gigs would allow the opportunity to host the jams.

Do you Brits like American blues oriented music from the 60's and 70's sung with a funny accent?

.......and thank you Eddie_Blackadder for the warm invitation.

Ooh Men that would be great if we could get some Americans over, we are still trying to get a venue.
Ronworld(my brother-in-law) and I live in Washington(the original) and we are trying to get a suitable place.
    We'll keep you all posted.
Washington is 6 miles south of Newcastle and just off the A1M.

Well the venue is booked! The Quids Inn at Concord at Washington. ( nee Washington Football Club) I have a drummer 'penciled' in and he said he would bring his spare kit! The room has a bar ( natch!) a modest raised stage. It also has a ratty pool table at the back and that well lived in atmosphere, often seen in gritty northern dramas produced by southern ex grad media studies dudes. We have it from 12 noon till 5pm

Ooo ooo ooo...I just checked the coach and train details. Looks like I'll have to get a train to Newcastle, then another one to Washington...I plain couldn't find Washington on the bus, coach or train time listings...

Is the venue a fair walk from Newcastle station? Or is there a train/bus I could catch?

    I'm getting excited/nervous now

Re: Toonstock II - UK Jam

Power 13, you can get a bus from Newcastle to Washington(there is no train line through here.
The best plan though is to get The Metro(bit like Sheffield's Supertram)it's located at Newcastle Central Station and get off at Heworth where there are buses to take you straight in to Concord, Washington where the jam will be.
It sounds complicated but it's not.
E-mail me sometime and i will give you my phone no's, as i'm not a Guitarist per se i will be there to make sure that people find the Quids Inn o.k
Don't worry Guy's, you can Trust your Uncle Paul, i'll not leave ya's stranded.
