allright, I guess I didn't delete my original files off my webspace after all.

these were recorded direct, through my Teac A3340 reel-to-reel, and out the back into the line-in on my tempermental soundblaster PCI 128 soundcard. I didn't actually record onto tape, just used the unit as a preamp of sorts.

music is as much of that cool Bach cello suite as I have figured out so far. no reverb or anything to pamper up the sound either....barenaked & fugly is the name of the game :)



1968 Gibson EB-0.

they aren't kidding when they say these are muddy sounding. tone on 10, volume about halfway ( the pickups are very hot & will overdrive almost any preamp on 10, I think they're 15k or something ) despite this, I really like this bass for some reason. lots of low end, unf a lot of this is on the upper frets, so it doesn't exactly shine.

1986/7 G&L SB-1

I just bought this recently, it's basically a P bass built by G&L. same configuration, has the split-humbucker G&L single pickup, 1 volume, 1 tone. maple neck, maybe that adds to the brightness?

volume about 6, tone about 6 as well.

I really like the sound of this bass, it's a lot more versatile than the EB-0, and cuts through clearer. rolling the tone off gives a meatier sound, and maxxing it out gets close to a Rickenbacker bite on the high end. ( in my naiive, inexperienced opinion :) ) it's also recorded at a higher level, so it's a louder mp3.

anyway, I haven' been playing long & am not trying to show off or anything. just trying to learn about recording by doing little experiments like this, & I think it's interesting to listen to stuff other people do too.
