    Cry Baby Wah switch

I just got a broken Cry Baby Wah pedal for $5.00. It seems the only thing wrong with it is the switch is bad. I have not had one since 1979 so I don't remember how it worked.

How many switch positons are there? I thought just Wah on, and Wah off?

There are three terminals on the switch and it is a Dunlop GCB-95 model.

    Thanks for the help..

    It's just a DPDT switch.

Should be able to get 'em anywhere.

There's on and then there's off

I've got a GCB-95, cost me 65 quid, so I'd say you got a good deal there. Haven't opened it yet, but I guess it's a standard switch that shouldn't be hard to find a replacement for.

One more thing. Is there suppose to be some sort of spring on the pedal itself? I thought I read that...

So since there are three terminals, I'm assuming when pressed on, one side connects to the common, and off, the other side?

It's weird. On one side I have green, and the other side purple and blue.
Either way I switch it, the blue does not seem to connect to anything...

I guess I'll have to buy the switch and cut the wires and test them....

Actually, the stock one is a SPDT switch. You'll want to replace it with a DPDT, so it won't tone suck.

Here are schematics to convert several different wahs:

    Re: Cry Baby Wah switch

Thanks for the help guys. After reading the stuff Fezz posted and found out how the switch was to be adjusted, I found out this things works PERFECTLY.

I just cannibalized another switch by taking the nut off the switch and then adjusted the switch so you have to compress the rubber bumpers to switch the unit. Perfecto...

I played it and it sounds great..

    But....

After playing it, it all came back to me why I got rid of my original Cry Baby in 1979... I'm totally uncoordinated....

I think it's going to become eBay fodder.. Unless I can change 46 years of uncordination in a few days...

It just like tapping your foot, but if you can't get it together, I'll take it off your hands...

    Re: Cry Baby Wah switch

I'll play with it a bit longer. I need to get some grease.. It squeaks a bit...

Now what about adjustments.. I have most of the wah sound closer to the toe.. is that the way they should be?

You know, we ought to start an equipment database. Everyone enters stuff they don't use and a value is set and when you are tired of an item, you go to the database and put in the value of the item you want to trade and a list of stuff comes up that you can swap your item for.... No costs, except shipping..

I don't know.. There just so much stuff I get that I don't really use, but I'd like to play with other stuff without laying out any cash....

There's two schools of wah using. I'm from the slow wah, use it more like a tone knob kinda guy...

    Re: Cry Baby Wah switch

I'm starting to like this thing. Yes, it is sort of like tapping your foot a times.
The only problem is I'm starting to get a lot of pedals. I've never intended to do that.. Wah > Wasabi overdrive > Compressor > Chorus > Phaser...

    How did that all happen?

WD40 loosened up the thing and no more squeak.. I just bought new rubber feet for it, and all I need to do now is get some rubber to cover the top of the pedal.

The only thing else is if anyone can send me a good photo of the Cry Baby logo plate on the front of the unit. It's gone and I'd like to replicate it by printing it and then laminating it in plastic and then gluing it on.
