    Neat voicing for Fm6 chord

Fm6 (really and Fm11 with a 6 in it, or an Fm13 with an 11 in it, so would that be Fm13sus? You'd have to add an Eb (7) to call it that.) Anyway it's a cool sounding voicing when a minor 6 is specified.

    E) - - - - - x - - - - - - - - Bb (11)
    B) - - - - - x - - - - - - - - F (1)
    G) - - - - - - x - - - - - - - D (6)
    D) - - - - - x - - - - - - - - Ab (m3)
    A) - - - - - x - - - - - - - - Eb (7) mute
    E) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - mute

empty pattern to cut and paste:

    E) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    B) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    G) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    D) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    A) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    E) - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

OTM, I like your idea above but I'm confused by the A natural. Wouldn't that defeat the minor aspect of an Fm6? The third of an Fm6 would be an Ab, not an A, would it not?

Re: Neat voicing for Fm6 chord

Yes that is great advice. I can think of several songs right off the bat that use that same idea. One is a beautiful waltz by Thad Jones called "A Child Is Born" that opens with the vamp: Bbmaj7/Ebm. I play it like this:

    Bbmaj7
    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - F (5)
    B) - - x - - - - - - - - - - - D (3)
    G) - x - - - - - - - - - - - - A (maj7)
    D) - - x - - - - - - - - - - - F (5)
    A) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bb (R)
    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - F (5)

    Ebm
    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - F (9)
    B) - - - x - - - - - - - - - - Eb (1)
    G) - - x - - - - - - - - - - - Bb (5)
    D) - - - x - - - - - - - - - - Gb (m3)
    A) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bb (5)
    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - - F (9)

In this case I hit the F and Bb notes on the low E and A strings before strumming each of the four upper four note chords. The Ebm slide the three notes up a half step. Everything else stays the same. I just bar the first fret and all the movement occurs with the other fingers. Here's whatthey look like together:

    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    B) - - x y - - - - - - - - - -
    G) - x y - - - - - - - - - - -
    D) - - x y - - - - - - - - - -
    A) x - - - - - - - - - - - - -
    E) x - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It really sounds great. The other song that I am reminded of is by Keith Jarrett called "Lucky Southern" in D major.

    Dmaj7
    E) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -
    B) - - - - - - x - - - - - - -
    G) - - - - - x - - - - - - - -
    D) - - - - - - x - - - - - - -
    A) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -
    E) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -

    Ebmaj7
    E) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -
    B) - - - - - - o x - - - - - -
    G) - - - - - o x - - - - - - -
    D) - - - - - - o x - - - - - -
    A) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -
    E) - - - - x - - - - - - - - -

The Ebmaj7 slides up the inner three notes from the "o" position, similar to A Child Is Born, same effect.
