    $15 extra.

to drill two holes in a stupid pickguard. WTF? :fc

i asked if it were possible to just drill the height adjustment screw holes for an hb in the pickguard. that's it. $15 extra. but to get an hb hole and those screw holes cut together is a standard no upcharge option.

i wonder what their line of thinking is? i guess it's easier to do the whole cut as opposed to laying the temple on there and drilling the holes.

one more reason i DIY as much as possible.

Well, there are some things that are better DIY and there are some things that aren't.

i don't really want to say, it just struck as stupid. not that's it's any big deal, but i was a little pissed about it. fuck em, i'll just templates of their guards when they show up and then never have to order another one from them.

If it's something/somebody like Warmoth, they have CNC templates that do the standard stuff. It's fire & forget - they just slap a blank down on a machine, punch up the program, and move on to the next one.

When you want something non-standard - like holes for humbuckers - then a guy has to either physically do it himself OR they have to create a program for the CNC that does it. Either way, they're paying a guy something extra to do what it is you want, and passing that cost on to you.

    Re: $15 extra.

I've had many a pickguard made by Warmoth and they'll do any standard shape (SC, HB, P90, etc) in any position as standard. You'd have to come up with something truly weird for them to not include it in the cost.

WHO did this, Chuck?! I must know so that I may smite them.

    well curtis,

it was warmoth. and that is the hard part for me cause i've ordered a lot of stuff from them and then now i'm second guessing ordering from them anymore.

that is what is weird. cause they would cut for an hb, but upcharge if i wanted just the holes. the have to lay the template on there either way. just the holes would mean a couple less minutes of work time.

    go figure.

That's extremely gay, dude. But what I'm wondering is why you couldn't just drill two holes yourself. I mean, you've done some very insane stuff to guitars before. Why ask Warmoth to just make a couple holes?

just to save myself a couple minutes. now i have to do it, no big deal. but i was figuring since they were cutting it, they might as well drill those holes.
