    Even though he played the vibraphone, I think we all learned a lot from him through our rock and blues guitar heros. I was amazed when I listened to a Benny Goodman album and heard licks that I've played for years... played on vibes!

    Mr Hampton was an excellent player and part of musical history.

    When he joined the Benny Goodman band it was the first time blacks and whites performed in public together.

    If possible watch some old footage those guys jammed harder and faster than any of todays players.

    Just a guess but I bet Lionel was the last living member of the Benny Goodman band.

    you may be correct on that one. to the best of my knowledge, at least among the "name" players, he was the last survivor. interesting topic though.
