He did. I think it was after Seymour made the Tele-Gib for Jeff Beck. A few weeks later, if I remember right, Jeff's roadie went to see Seymour with three guitar cases. He said "Jeff said for you to take your pick"...there was a '54 Strat, a Broadcaster and the Esquire. Seymour chose the Esquire.

In fact, the Seymour Duncan Esquire is loosely based on Jeff Beck's Esquire...I think. Well, they both say Esquire on the headstock at least...

Also, Fender already makes an Albert Collins sig Tele. I can't remember the poster who suggested it, but yeah :) It's a sweet guitar, from what I've heard
i bet this really annoy's you if your a grammar freak.

A Jesse Ed Davis Tele would be cool but he isn't all
that well known. He had a black one with a maple
    neck/board.
I've heard it was a late ('59?)top loader and
then also that it was an earlier '50s strings
    through body.
He used it mostly on the early Taj Mahal LPs
    amd maybe with George Harrison.

British session man who I always respected. Yep, he played a lot of guitar on George's double set, " All things must pass"

Jesse Edwin Davis was a full blooded Kiowa indian born in Norman, Oklahoma. He may have done a few sessions over there, but he was as American as you can get.

I got to hang with him quite a bit when he was in the Grafitti Band with John Trudell. He was a wonderful talent, and a decent guy. After he died, a friend and I went and bought one of his Strats he had pawned.

    Naaah!
The boss' Tele is/was an Esquire, and it's sooooo tweaked and treble-boosted...
It is kinda' strange that it hasn't been done. He's a pretty loyal user.
Actually it would be quite a challenge.
I think the back is so worn through and sweat-soaked there's probably moss & mold spores growing on it.
    Cool guitar though.

Re: Signature edition Teles you'd like to see?

I was going to say Bruce Springsteen myself, but I remember BobK once telling me that, since most of the work on Bruce's guitar is done by Phil Petillo, it'd require some sort of alliance between Fender and him to be authentic.

Then I remember on another message board, someone saying that he had an uncle who worked at Fender who said Fender would happily do a Springsteen sig guitar, but he'd never approached them asking about it.

Then my guitar teacher said that Bruce is more well known as a songwriter and singer than a guitarist, and for that reason there probably won't be one.

Then I met Bruce in a dream and asked him if he ever read the message board on his own official site, as I have always been curious. He just kind of laughed nervously a bit, then I woke up. That was a cool dream.
