    50's Black Guard Tele

I'm thinking of investing some hard earned cash in one of these.

Any advice on what to look out for and what I should expect to pay?

Not Sure. I know the Broadcasters and Nocasters can exceed $40,000. My shot in the dark guess (for a '52-54 Tele) would be around $20,000 give or take b/c of condition. Not that that actually helps you much.

If you want the tone, but $20,000 is a bit steep, I've heard a lot of guys say that the CS Nocaster Relics or Lentz Telecasters are every bit as good as the vintage ones. Even better in a lot of cases. Plus, with one of those, you can change pickups without hurting the value of the guitar (If by some remote chance you don't like the CS Nocasters or the Lentz Tele pickups. I'd get some Voodoo TE50's in that case).

$2500 compared to $20,000 for something that's as good or better than the $20,000.

Of course, there's no substitute for the collectability and the "I've got a vintage guitar!" factor of a vintage guitar.
