    Explain this tone control?

Being mainly a Gibson-head, I'm not as 'studied' on Fender-type guitars as I might be. I bought a loaded Tele control plate off ebay recently, and the tone control is a dual pot with a center detent. I haven't put it in my Tele yet.

Can someone explain to me what this is?

Yes, hard to day without a pic of the wiring.. But I think it possibly is a blender control. Or it could be a second tone. Neck and bridge separate tone... Blender pot sounds more logical though...

It's a TBX tone control, I'll wager. I've got one in my bucket o' guitar bits. I yanked it out of my pal's Strat Plus.

The gag is that from 0 to the detente it works like a regular tone control, cutting treble. From the detente up to 10 it cuts bass. Supposed to give you a wider range of tonal control.

I personally didn't care for it but maybe that's just because it's not what I'm used to.

curtisstetka is correct, it's a TBX tone control...which "robs" from the "bright" and gives to the "bassy." It's PASSIVE so cannot really "give" you anything, it just appears to do so...

Why would one want to cut the bass on a Tele anyway?

That is a good point. I mean you don't got a whole lotta bass on a standard Tele as it is...

Thanks for the explanations. I didn't buy the control plate for the purpose of getting that tone control - I bought it to have one to drill for a third control for my personal control scheme. Since it's there, I may as well at least try it to see if I like it...
