    Look what I found!

Here's a shot of an original custom color '56 Strat at American Vintage Guitar next to a picture of my "Bastardcaster":

How cool is that? I made a replica of a famous guitar & I didn't even know it. Now I'm gonna have to break out the round string retainer I was saving for the Tele & make it RIGHT!

BTW- The Strat from AVG is NOT for sale. This is not SPAM.

Wow, other than the string tree (and some aging) it looks just like it

Nice. Looks like some 50's car color. That original Strat looks damn flawless.

That's "Teal Green Metallic" on my guitar w/just a hint of amber in the clearcoat.

Where do you get the "Fender" decals for the headstock? That looks awesome 71818!!! I always liked that colour a lot. It has a real good retro vibe to it.

The Fender decal can be had at about any guitar show. Just be discreet & know EXACTLY what your looking for. There are a lot of cheezy decals out there.

Is that guitar show or guitar shop? I'm not sure what you mean.

A guitar show. Just like a dog show, or car show, or boat show. You know, a hall or convention center that is rented out & filled w/table after table of guitars. Guys hawking their wares. Celebrities signing autographs. That kind of thing.

Got ya. I was just making sure it wasn't a typo. ;)

BTW, who sells those decals at those shows? I guess they aren't offical decals, right? What I mean is are they the real thing or are they more like copies?

Decals can look very right, or very wrong depending on how close you look and if you have a good eye.

They are like fake Rolexes. They won't usually be on display. Ask quietly about them.

    I made my own 5 or 6.

    Re: Look what I found!

I remember refinishing a MIJ 62RI back in '88 & the only decal I could find was very poor quality. Wrong STRATOCASTER font & the "Fender" had no definition at all. Nowadays there are some great ones out there. Usually guys at shows that have tables full of parts will have some decals also. eBay has them, but you'd better know what you are looking at. Go for the ones that display a CLEAR picture & have a detailed description. Chances are if someone is specific enough on eBay to mention the different serial number combinations & post a large photo they've got the goods.
