Lovely, and so much cooler than artificially aged. Wouldn't the lack of serial number be a problem though?

Well, he says his uncle bought it out of the trunk of some guy's car. And if you look at the photo of the back of the guitar, there's a boogered up area at the bottom of the neck plate. That could be where the serial number was (in the late '50s & early '60s some neck plates had the ser.# at the bottom instead of the top) & someone removed it. My guess is that it was a "hot" guitar. Everything else looks right, or I should say nothing looks really obviously wrong with the rest of the guitar. The absence of a neck date is correct for that period, too. Too bad the guy didn't include a photo of the headstock decal.
It'll be interesting to see if it goes for $15K, though. That'd be pretty steep for a guitar w/an issue like that. Of course, there's nothing stopping someone from buying it & putting a numbered neck plate on it from that era. They could just buy it, change the plate & roll it over after a while. I always wondered why Fender put something as important as a serial number on a little piece that could be so easily switched out.
Every time I think it might be cool to have a guitar like that, I remember how much I worry about stuff getting stolen or damaged as it is. I'm already paranoid about my vintage ES-335. I've heard of guys that play out with fairly new stuff because the old stuff is worth too much to risk it.
I'm paranoid about my Frankenstrat!

I'm just paranoid
If you leave the house, you're just asking for it.
Well, it does look an awful lot like the Strat I play "standards, semi-classical and gospel" on as well, so it must be legit...

To bad the guitar wasn't kept in that mint case under the bed. Would have held up better ;)
Is there any way to verify that no rock music has been played on it ?LOL!
That guitar has been mistreated. No, I don't mean its condition. It desperately wants someone to play some scorching blues and rock licks on it.

Does anyone else think the backplate and the neck and bridge pup look a little too bright to be original? There is definitely some buggering where the serial number should be. The question is, did "Uncle Ken" buy it that way in the Summer of 1960, or is it more recent?

I've seen plastic parts that were DEFINITELY all stock age differently. Mostly knobs, the ones getting handled more often turning more yellow. And the backplate... well, it's on the back!
This isn't THE Uncle Ken, is it? :hee

yes when gigging out leave the good one home and get a replica like this on called "keebler" because he won't tell who made it because it was made by elves....

Exactly! He's hopeful, though.Originally Posted by rockntommy
Man, semi-classical stuff is rough on the guitars. Must be all those rest strokes chippin' up the finish. Nice looking guitar though, looks legit to me, but I'd want more info if I was buying. But I also think that $ is too high.
Auction ended w/zero bids. I guess that serial number was a deal breaker.
