    Help identifying this gold/gold strat???

    Hi All

    Hope everyone is well.

My uncle has this strat, which he will NOT sell me, and I can't take it from him 'cause, well, he's my uncle, so I'm screwed.

The serial number is CA 11308 and the paint is gold metal flake, and all hardware is gold right down to the screws. The headstock has the 70's logo and STRATOCASTER typeface, but it's a small headstock, so that throws me off right there.

Can anyone tell me about it? Any help you can give would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for your time and help!!!!

    -Chad

I wanted to add...it's as heavy as my Les Paul Gold Top, so it's got to be mahogany...or cement.

The headstock is not the right shape either. I seriously doubt it's a Fender neck. If it's as heavy as you say, and the body really is a Fender body, it's most likely ash. The ash bodies of the 70's were legendary for how heavy they were. I doubt very much it's mahogany or alder.

I'll have to pull the neck off and check the stamp.

It feels like a Fender neck. I've owned enough strats to know that "feel."

Most guesses so far are that it's an '80.

Found it. Now that I have the serial number, here's what I dug up:

CA(XXXXX) Gold Strat 1981, 82 and 83. Total bummer. This would make it a CBS Strat. Well, can't win 'em all.

That's a Fender "Gold-Gold" Stratocaster. They came out with that in '81-'83, I believe. Supposedly, that's real 100 micron gold coat over brass hardware.
The goofy headstock was also found on the "Strat" & walnut stratocaster guitars.

71818, you're pretty good with this identity stuff. I've got to hand it to you!

And Chad, your uncle's grass needs cutting and edging. No more pics until you help him with that! ;)

i like them strats.......my opinion is that fender got busted trying to fake USA 4 foreign.....it says USA *only* on the neck plate, right?

and that neck is very.......*very*.......familiar/similar to the Bullet series.

and, yes, that body is indeed made of cement or concrete. to say that that guitar is heavy is an understatement.

Ah, I just read a lot.
There's a guy from Spokane named Tim Langford & he plays a "Strat" in his band, Too Slim & the Taildraggers. He bought it new & has played it to death. It's very similar to the model above. I don't like the poly finish or the weight, but he seems to get a good sound!

LOL...that's the grass behind my studio. Funny, there's been more comments about the grass than the guitar. It's spring in MN. It grows faster than the landscape guys can handle once a week.

It says MADE IN USA on the Headstock.

Right on...I thought the same about 82 and 83. CBS or not, it plays great and sounds even better.

Heavy? Yes but it sounds and plays great.

My 82 STRAT - Cheesy photo, too big to post without it re-sizing the thread

This one's not for sale, I don't care what the street value is or isn't..

Hey, Chad! Nice to see another MN forum member. You guys got spring in St. Cloud? I'm jealous...still waiting in Duluth.

The last time I checked, street was around $800-$900 on a clean STRAT. I don't know about the gold/Gold Stratocaster.
