Pay NO attention to that man behind the curtain....
ok, then.....
Who can tell me about amp kits that they DO know about? Are there any worthy amp kits?
I asked about this one because I when I was searching on Google for "interleaved transformer" I found Allen.

I have not assembled any amp kits, Allen or otherwise. A buddy of mine, however, has an Allen Accomplice. He purchased it from somebody else who had assembled it.
I can vouch for the quality of that amp. It is well made and sounds very good. It's about comparable to my '70 Deluxe Reverb.
I've been thinking about buying a kit too just to learn something and have a little fun putting it together. When I've got the cash scraped together I'll be buying a kit from Allen. I've read some good reviews here and elsewhere.
Thanks, I am in the same situation exactly, AND I would love to learn more about putting amps together. Thanks!

I've built three Allen amps -- a TONESavor (early, 40 watt, 2x12 version), an Old Flame (older 2x10), and an Accomplice (older 18 watt, 1x12). Each of these is a keeper. I've gigged with each many times, and I consider them roadworthy. Very much in the blackface vein, but with a few, new twists. The raw control is very useful, and the post driver master volume is quite usable.
Do you have a link to their site?
Thanks

Ouch; "No support provided". You would think they have a help line or a forum of some type. I have seen a kit company that had Deluxe Tweeds and they had support and a user forum. I can't remember who?

Where did you see "No support provided"? David's support has always been top notch.
NEW! 5F1 style amp kit with 10" speaker. Now with EL34 option! All the parts you need to build a working tweed-era single-ended guitar amp. Larger cabinet with Allen C1060 speaker for improved bottom end performance. Oversized power transformer (TP25) and upgrade output transformer (TO10C) support the use of a 6V6, 6L6 or EL34 power tube. Chrome chassis and top quality parts plus a parts list, large color coded layout drawing and 5 page simplified assembly instructions. Due to the low price, NO tech support is provided. You should be able to make reliable solder connections, use simple hand tools, use an ohm meter and follow instructions to assemble this kit. The finger-jointed pine cabinet is available uncovered, blond/gold (shown above), blond/oxblood, black/silver or tweed/oxblood covered. An optional tone control mod to replace the second input jack is included. This is a great little amp and loves pedals.Originally Posted by Jim Collins
I read further and it is just on this model that no support is offered.
Figures it was the only one I clicked on

Do any of these people make amps that can be used on the UK's 230v AC rather than the states 110v? Or do I have to get my project amp from Torres? I have heard very bad things about the US arm over on the LPF.
I am not an electronics whiz, but I think it is about the transformer and how it steps up voltage. You might ask Allen if they have an alternative schematic for 230v. I would... I would also do a search for interleaved transformers specifically related to 230v.

I was a as far as physics at schooland a I remain as far as what does what, but I've done emergency repairs on amps and guitars, fitted new pickups and switches, and I thinka kit is the best way forme to get some handwired mojo.
tonemonkey,
I would love to have that handwired history too!

Wouldn't we all?
I used to have a semi handwired marshall (MV series 2) that had a great tone, but only one of them. I sold it to get a twin channel amp . It was cool on the inside too, it had a sheet on the side signed by all the women who put it together.
Thing is I still have that twin channel amp, and I only use the clean channel.
