Something I've never tried before
So I'm just sitting around the front room & I pick up my ES-165. Its a full-hollow body w/a floating pickup, & right now its strung w/flat wounds. I plugged it into my board & into my Powerblock, & that into an EV12L. Everything on the board is off but the reverb. I roll the effect totally wet & just brought the volume up a little bit. Very interesting results. If I turn the 'verb down so that the acoustic sound of the guitar is louder than the effect, it give a pretty wild spatial effect. Hard to describe. Just gives the sound a wideness.
I don't know if this is a common usage or not. I've never heard of anyone doing it like that but I'm sure its been done before, you know? Is this some kind of secret or do I just need to get out more?
Re: Something I've never tried before
basically it's like playing a guitar acoustically with reverb.
put a large diaphragm condenser mic in figure 8 or omni, between you and the speaker and record that. I bet it will sound pretty cool.

Yes, exactly. The reverb volume is low enough that you can't really sense the source of it. Literally ambient

I will have to give this a try. Thanks.
