Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
To deliver my new Telecaster Pickup! I ordered a Voodoo TE-60 last week, since I'd sold my Stuart "Lapwrap". This will go in my Bigsby'd Thinline. I'm pretty darn excited!!! I've heard a lot of good things about his pickups, and the price was right. I'll post pix and a review here soon.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Guess it's gonna be tomorrow... Darn
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Can't wait to hear how you like that pickup!
Sorry to hear about the delay! I'm expecting the brown truck tomorrow as well. Part of my Mojo Champ kit is supposed to be arriving. I'm supposed to receive everything except the volume pot/power switch, fiberboard and cabinet.
I don't expect the cabinet for a couple of weeks but I'm a little disappointed about the fiberboard. I can't do a lot without it.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
They told me mid week, so I was hoping for today. I'm excited as well, I figure that if they're good enough for John Fogerty, then they're good enough for me...
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
I had a TE60's a long time ago in an MIM Tele. I remembered it being very sparkly but also pretty high output.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
I talked to Peter Florance himself, and he said the same thing! And that's good because that's EXACTLY the sound I'm going for. My Thinline is a little on the dark side.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
I had one of his TE50's back in college too and I seem to get the impression that he has a knack of winding pickups that are pretty high output for what they are but somehow don't loose what the pickup's "supposed" to sound like. That TE50's was pretty hot too but I don't remember it being dark at all. Pretty bright and twangy, actually, but smoother than the TE60's. Less "Guitars, Cadillacs" and more lap steel. Looking at the resistance you'd think it would do a good live Keef Tele thing but I never could get that guitar/pickup to sound like that.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Thanx for your review Tug! I'm still waiting which is fine as I ordered it a week or so ago.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
It's here it's here it's here!!! No time today or tomorrow to put her in, so it'll have to be Wednesday. Looks awesome tho, lightly relic'd.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
That often happens to me! Things arrive when I can't do anything with them!
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
So after installing it and playing, I think I'm gonna try it in my white frankentele. It sounds great, a lot like my buddy's '59 Tele. I'll put the G&L in the Thinline. It's brighter than the Voodoo, and the Thinline is kinda dark anyways.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Chucko, got any pix of your thinline? I love those, wish they made a left-handed model.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Check in the Clone Zone, I have a whole thread dedicated to it.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Good god that's a hell of a guitar. Looks great!
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Thanx! I need to get a new neck for it, but it's a mean machine as it sits.
Re: Waiting on Mr Brown Truck
Update: I have a delivery coming today with more parts. Sundries to finish my sparkle Tele I decided to build. I'm pulling the Voodoo out of the Thinline and putting it in the Sparkle-ista, along with a '73 Gibson mini HB in the neck. The guitar will also get a Wilkinson compensated Tele bridge.
I got a GFS Lil Puncher (Vintage wind) bridge pup to put in the Thinline. From what I've read it's a great pup in the Barden camp, plus I can wire it series/parallel for added versatility. And for $30, well, I really can't go wrong.
Both of these guitars, for right now at least, will be using salvaged necks... Not ideal, but I'm on a tight budget! Eventually tho I'll get a couple necks from StewMac. Don't know if y'all have seen those, but they're basically copies of newer style Fender necks. 9.5" radii, modern "C" shape... A lot like what comes on most standard Fenders. I prefer "vintage" necks, but I do really like the new necks Fender is using. Not too flat of a radius, and no "Jumbo" frets. I can't play necks like that, so these are a happy medium of old and new. And I can deal with that!
