You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
sorry if these things are a bit mindless. Just throwing it out there.
My number one is my Ric, but the Precision runs a close second.
However, if I were going to buy another bass, it'd either be a Gibson EB-3 or a some kind of Hofner semi-hollow body with f-holes. I'd play any good semi-hollow if manufactures would offer a left. The only decent brand doing that is Hofner.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
Interestingly enough, I thought it would be the other way, but my Ibanez MiKro GSRM30 is my number one bass, and my Epiphone Jack Casady 20th Anniversary Signature model is my number two.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
My number one is a MIJ modded/active PJ - P body, J neck, PJ pickups. Covers a lot of ground for me and feels sweet as sunshine.
I've had a lot of number twos - Bass VI, EB/MM, straight P bass, straight Jazz bass, Fender Starcaster.
Always come back to my number one.

That looks so great, dirtdog. Is that a 3-way switch for the pups?

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
My #1 is my early 80’s Precision. Black, maple/maple. Had pickup and bridge covers new.
EMG’s in ‘92 or ‘93? Lots of gigs. A big, badass sounding mofo. Big, loud and unapologetic.
#2, and mostly played these days is a tele/P mashup I built a couple of years ago.
Mahogany body, maple neck with rosewood. EMG’s. Big and punchy.

B&G will make you one for the same price as a righty.
They sound great, play fantastic and weigh nothing.
It's my number one.

Number two would be an Elrick.

CG, I saw those basses and pretended for a second that they were left handed.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
My number one 5 string is the deluxe Lakland I’ve been playing since purchasing it in 1999. The second string 5er would be the Stingray 5 that I played from ‘88 up until the purchase of the Lakland.
For four string basses my number one is a ‘63 Fender Jazz that I purchased for $150 back around 1976 or so. It was refinished and I installed a Mighty-mite neck on it so it’s not original as far as those changes but all wiring, hardware and body are. The number 2 four banger is an original ‘65 Fender Precision I purchased new in ‘65.
I don’t have individual pictures of them but they’re all in this photo of the stuff in my practice room.https://scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net...f9&oe=5E8402CF

That's a beautiful batch of gear there, Laker.

Thanks, I’m really kind of lazy when it comes to taking pictures. For some reason I can’t remember why I stuck everything together for a photo (might have been insurance). I did sell my fretless Lakland around a year ago. I owned that since 2000 and very seldom had a reason to play it. I thought it should be with a player who would really enjoy it.
By the way, the speaker cabinet in the corner next to the 345 Gibson is one I built that is loaded with a JB Lansing LE14-C speaker.

If you’re coming this way, I’ll cut some lefty nuts so at least the strings will be right ways up!

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
I don’t have any pictures to post, but currently my #1 is a Squier J with a Badass bridge, DiMarzio Area J pups and strung BEAD. My #2 is a Frankenstein with a repainted Squier P body, Warmoth Wenge/Rosewood J neck, Badass bridge, Gibson Recording Bass pup and strung BEAD. As much as I love my 73Ric, it sits in the closet as these basses work better for the worship music I play at church. I’m not currently playing in a bar band, only Sunday morning for 2 services. I’ve downsized quite a bit, and I’m actually not even really using an amp! We play at a quiet volume so I’m using my Micro SVT as a stage monitor... The 6X10 and Ashdown are collecting dust in my garage.
Hope everyone is doing well. Peace out dumbasses! :D

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
Hey, Chucko! Hope your Ric doesn't get jealous, you playing other basses. tch tch tch. Just kidding--I hardly ever played my Ric in the last band I was in because the music we did just needed the Fender sound. Glad to see you're doing okay. Rock on, brother.
-
Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
Thanks buddy! I’m doing good, just crazy busy. As for the Fender VS Ric, the Ric has a pretty singular color, Fender basses are more versatile IME. I still LOVE the Ric, but for now she’s collecting dust... simply awaiting the day she can get the cobwebs blown off and be put back to work.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
Rics do what they do, and I've heard no other bass that can get the sounds Rics get. In other words, they're indispensable when a song calls for the Ric tone. Fenders are just more versatile. We're lucky to have both. I occasionally pull down the Ric to get ... fulfilled. It's an addicting bass.
-
Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
Some nice thumpers here...
My #1 bass is a Gibson Les Paul bass - sililar to a LP Special, slab mahogany body and 2 pickups.
I nicknamed it The Ox when John Entwistle died.
My #2 is one I built (well, assembled...) myself. It's a Jazz style body, basswood with quilt maple top, fretless P-bass neck with Fender Custom shop 60's pickups, stack knob config.
I also have an old Yamaha cheapo and an even cheaper 8-string I got on ebay. That one came to me with the neck broken off - the bolts pulled out in transit, so I recently got around to getting a set of the metal neck inserts to put it back together. Thing sounds huge, especially with a bit of distortion.
If I was to get another bass, it would either be a Rick or a Fender P-bass.

Sorry - just seeing this now Willie.
That mini switch is for active/passive.
I've got concentric volume pots up front and concentric tone pots in the middle. The lower is the passive tone control (cut), the top is active (cut/boost).
Funny looking at the picture and holding the bass in my hands now - I'm missing a couple of parts (a cover for the concentric tone pot and a screw right near that pot). Not sure what happened there!

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
My number 1 is a 1972 Jazz Bass with natural finish, tortoise shell pickguard and maple neck. My current number 2 is a Fender Vintera Jazz Bass in Firemist Gold.

Geezsh I'd love to see pics of that Jazz Bass. And what do you think of the Vintera? I've heard great things. Unfortunately, I'm a lefty, and last time I checked, Fender offers no lefty versions of the Vinteras.

I'm a lefty as well for most things. I learned to play on a right handed guitar when I was 5, and I have never changed. I thought my 72 was a 73 due to the pearl block inlays on the maple neck. The neck code dates it to August 72 though. If I can figure out how to upload a photo, I will. I like the Vintera bass. For what it is, it has a very good feel and tone.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
I currently only have one bass, the other probably won't be done for another year and that's if my drill press still works.

Re: You've Got Your Number One; What's Your Number Two Bass?
My number one is a Lakland 44-01 Deluxe and my number 2 is a CIJ Fender PBass

My newest bass is also my first acoustic bass. A Spector Timbre 4 Jr Short Scale Acoustic-Electric. My #2 would have to be my Ibanez GSRM20-RBM Gio miKro Short-Scale bass (yes, I love my Epiphone Jack Casady 20th Anniversary signature bass, but it's full-size and I feel more comfortable with short-scale instruments).

It's a really classy looking bass, yours. If I had one, I'd have to wear my charcoal gray suit—it's that classy looking.
