hey guys got a tele deluxe all wired up, but when i put the control side of the pickguard on the body, i get no sound. there is sound when i hold it 1/16" above the body, but no sound when i lay it on the body. what do you guys think?

Bad solder joint or broken wire. With it off the body, wiggle the wires around to see if it cuts out.
Yup go over all your solder joints .... That's the fun of it all anyway..
ok, now i got a pop when i switch from neck to any other position
Check for solder in the switch..
or see if you're grounding out in the bottom or side of the cavity. i've had this happen to me before in teles beings the way the hotdog plate is. easy way is to stick a piece of electrical tape on the switch and put it back together.
