Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
Well, I just ordered one of these. Sweetwater tells me it should be here within a week.
This amp is logical for me since I've always loved the Beatles Vox tones. I was just shopping for a small practice amp. Couldn't find anything to suit me, so I thought of the AC10 and AC15. I actually order the AC10. Then I started to think about how I'd wanted a Vox AC30 for decades. And, a music dealer's dream, I started off looking at $200 and wound up spending about $1500.
Any of you have a Vox amp?

I haven't gotten around to a Vox amp yet. I only recently got around to getting Marshall types of amps.
I have the Mesa TA15 which Mesa touts as being Vox-like, but Mesa DNA is strong and tends to overwhelm amp sounds that they attempt to pay tribute to. I think it's kind of Vox-like, especially when I use it with a Scumnico speaker, but I'm not hugely into bands that used Vox amps, so I'm certainly not an expert.

The AC30TB is perfect for guitarists or bands that play a lot of "British invasion" material from the '60s -- Beatles, Stones, Hollies, Dave Clark 5, etc. I'm hesitant to call the Vox a one-trick pony but sonically they're just not as versatile as a Pro Reverb and they lack the low-end growl of the JTM45-derived Blues Breaker. Nevertheless, the AC30 has its place in any arsenal of amps and its tone is unmistakably memorable.

I love our American rockers, but I've always been more into British rock. The Vox will do for me what I need. I'm excited. It seems so long away before I'll get it that it doesn't seem real yet.

I'm sure it will. Be sure to post some pics when it's delivered.

Wow, Kenny. That is one cool set up. I would have gotten the AC15, but I already have the Deluxe Reverb and wanted a twin combo.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
Why not split the difference and grab one of those CS low-power Twins?
Clapton seems to like them.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
It's supposed to be here Wednesday. I need to work up an early Beatles song on the Ric and make that the first thing I play on the amp--gotta christen the thing somehow.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
It has arrived, but I'm a little paranoid about the virus, so I'm going to wait a couple of days before I open the boxes. I know this is maybe too cautious, but I don't want to risk it.
-
Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
not entirely unreasonable. I'm not hurrying to open stuff either and letting it sit. I just 'found' a pedal I ordered a couple weeks ago that came in last week/10 days ago. I'll open it today. :D

I have no idea. The outer box comes from Vox. It was shipped to Sweetwater who opened the box, checked out the amp, and closed it for shipping. A nurse and a biologist just advised me to let it sit for 24 hours, spray it with disinfectant, open it, and get the amp out.
I don't think I have to worry about touching the contents. They've been in the box for days before it got here anyway.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
The amp itself was built in China. I'd let it air out in the sunshine for a couple of days before physically touching it. The sun's UV rays should take care of any pesky virus that may be lurking.

Now that I've been learning more about amps, I casually saw that it has a 3x 12AX7 (preamp) and 4x EL84 (power) scheme, pretty interesting how it differs from, say, a Fender Twin Reverb with its 6L6s.

I'm getting antsy about opening it. I'm thinking of spraying down the cardboard and opening the thing.
Yes, can't wait to hear the differences between the DRRI and the Vox. I'll certainly give a report.

Nuke the box with a bleach and water mix and open it up.

I feel great today, and it's killing me not to open it. I got it about about 1pm yesterday, so sometime just after that, I'm going to bleach the box and do the deed. If I feel well enough tomorrow, I'll give a report of first impressions.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
I waited over 24 hours and then sprayed the box. Unpacked it. and pulled off the plastic and didn't touch the amp. Got rid of the box, washed my hands, and had a go.
I've had about 45 minutes with it. It's a wonderful sounding amp. The cleans are different from Fender cleans, but oh so good. And the big surprise is that when you crank it up, the OD, from a little dirt to bore on--excellent. Again so different from a Fender, but so good.
I'll say more about it after I've had a couple of weeks to get into it and use it.

Are you ready to jump on a Ric 330 now?

I played both the 330 and the Strat. Both sounded excellent. I was worried that the top boost would make the sound too tinny, but I didn't have to worry about a thing.

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
So, tell us your impressions about the beast now that you've had more time to play through it!
-
Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
I've finally had some quality time with it. I'll not use all 3000 characters. Ha ha
First, the Ric and Strat and Tele sound great through it. I tried the LP through it today and didn't take time to dial it in. But the amp really shines with the Strat and the Ric.
Tonally, it's so different from a Fender and Marshall. I am no good at describing sound, but it's very pleasant. It can get rocky too.
Maybe this is standard practice: the master volume controls the cleans, but if you turn up the volume knob of the channel, you get this amazing, full od/distortion. I could seriously do a lot of gigs just by plugging straight in.
I love it. I don't know how many months its going to be before I can enjoy a jam with other folks, using my Vox and my Ric 330. I can't wait for that time to come.

I'm sure it's the camera angle, but it hardly looks big enough to house 2x12" speakers.

It's the angle. It's quite a bit bigger than my deluxe. Loud sucker too. :sun

WOW! I LOVE IT!
I STILL want one of those.
I love my Matchless' which tend more to the VOX side.
I NEED a Vox though.
Because.

Yes you do. And if could justify the purchase, I'd get a Matchless stack. I love those amps.

Yes, everyone needs a VOX. Here's mine (yes, it's a real amp!).

LOL! Technically, it's an AC2 RhythmVOX. A mini guitar amplifier with rhythm.
(The owners manual is bigger than the amp!)

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
To get two watts the amp requires the optional double NiCad battery pack (not included).
:lmao:

Re: Vox AC30C2X 30-watt 2x12" Tube Combo with Alnico Blue Speakers
I don't want a Vox that small for practicing, but when I was shopping for the AC30, I meant to buy a practice amp with about an 8 inch speaker. So now I still want to buy a practice amp.
Not sure what I want. I'd rather have something all tube and with reverb. I don't need any effects or modeling or any of that shizzle. I'm pretty meat and potatoes when it comes to amps. Read traditionalist.

You don't have a Princeton Reverb?
:wow
