Bad enough that Gibson's doing a Strat knockoff...are they really calling it a Jimi Hendrix model and saying it's the guitar Jimi would've played if he hadn't died? :wah:
This guitar's almost as ridiculous and unbelievable as the comment from the guy who claims he spends "$500,000 a year on guitars and musical equipment."
It's the new Jimi signature Gibson. A guitar guaranteed to enrich three out of every four pockets when somebody buys one.
It's not like Gibson's never built a strat before.

Haha . I had a Victory. Beuatiful guitar, but solid Maple and very bright. The frets werre the fretless wonder size, and all wrong for the guitar. They didn't give a lot of thought to the pickups either, I don't think. I couldn't ever get mine to play well, so sold it. I was able to tame the icepick to a considerable with some Dimarzio pickups ( Air Norton, Air Classic).
The old US-1 one is a Gibson Superstrat with a pedigree. It's a great guitar IMO, if you can find one.'
OTOH< Gibson layed a few eggs like the other one in Kap'ns post, and a Custom Shop Superstrat that I forget what it was, it was expensive and it sucked, by all accounts.
As far as the Gibson new Starts..they look Killer! I bet they get them right!
What's really sad is that I'd bet the Victory probably would have sold decently had they actually made it out of ash or alder, or included one of those fancy lock nut whammies that were the trendy thing at the time.
As it is, they weren't even as popular as the bass model of the same name. How sad is that for Gibson?
Looks like a Hail Mary pass from here, or just a huge mistake by a marketing group that eagerly wolfed down a line of crap from "Authentic" Hendrix.
I remember the Victory, now that I see the ad. I remember thinking the body shape was kind of cool. I also remember not wanting one. :D
I wonder if the recent Monster.com ad somebody linked to, where Gibson's looking for a new CEO, is a result of this ill-advised Hendrix model.
Wow, I could see maybe having epiphone make them, but Gibson USA? LOL the comments on that page are pretty funny hahaha.
This makes as much fookin' sense as Fender offering a Carlos Santana "signature" Telecaster.
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, GIBSON?!?!?
:slap :wtf :kick
Ah yes......the "prime directive".
Better order two, Ian. In case the first one wears out!
:biglaugh:
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!:applaudit :applaudit :applaudit :applaudit
Heres my post on the Gibson Forum;
Gibson who cares what these losers think? They are the same ones who burned Darwin at the steak 500 years ago. Hey, I would love to have this. Laizze Faire baby. I bet Gibson gets this Strat right! Gibson Custom shop Strat for production price.
Have you suckups seen waht Fender is charging for a Start built 1/2 way the way they were in the 50's? ;7 grand! Thats right, so you can all sh*t and fall in it. Gibson knows waht they are doing, and I'd love to have one! Thanks Gibson.

That's pretty incoherent.
Yeah, wow, dunno about that signature Jerry.... :wah:
Although I was able to decipher with the help of this....

What doesn't a tricorder do?
:D
I get ya though Jerry, While not for me, It might be made pretty well, and might actually be a great playing guitar , so If you dig it and pick one up then plug into the marshall stack and... :headbange !
burned Darwin at the "steak"......
You mean, like at Golden Corral or Tony Roma's? T-bone or porterhouse?
500 years ago......
Charles Darwin died in 1892. He was given a state funeral and buried at Westminster Abbey in London.

Geez, Jerry......you better get it together, man.
:wah:
i'm of a wait and see attitude as to how this one turns out, but i've got to tell you my favorite of all my guitars is still a Gibson MKII, (basically a gibson superstrat style axe) it plays like a dream, double coil tapped 'buckers, skinny ass maple neck and fretboard, nothing i've bought since plays like it, so i'm one that will check it out when they're available.
LOL!
Does Gibson actually reference Hendrix anywhere?
Maybe JMH= Juszkiewicz, Mr, Henry.
Note that it's "News-Lifestyle..."
Yeah, it's kind of creepy that Gibson now thinks of itself as a "lifestyle" company... like Harley-Davidson, I suppose, which I was told was at one point making more money licensing their logo than they were building bikes.
Not that Fender doesn't think of themselves as a "lifestyle" brand, but at least they keep it mostly to themselves, as lone as you can ignore the barstools and playing cards. :D
The rapid decline of MTV came when they decided they weren't a music network... they were a network for people who made music a major part of their "lifestyle." A Strat-shaped guitar, based on Jimi's sister's wild guess as to what he might be either playing or simply "inspiring" in the 21st century, may be Gibson's version of "The Real World."
Aside from the angry posts, where does it mention Jimi?
Nevermind. I found this.
It's early, but I'm already thinkin' Darwin Steak for lunch today.
It doesn't in that article. The guitar has been announced, though, and there's a dead link on Gibson.com

Well done, Jim.
:couch
Jim's rare wit has me cowed, and that's no bull -- I wouldn't steer you wrong.
(Thought I'd see if I could kill this off before it gets too much further. :wah:)
Ah, puns. The leanest form of humor, barn none.
BTW: Three in one sentence! That's an A1 feat.
Three?! :332:
Oops.
4
That might make you the Kobe :wah: of beef shtick.
:lmao:
"Darwin Steaks... Eat or be eaten!"™
LOL JIM! I too just (almost) choked on my coffee.:ha
Back to the evolution of that guitar.
So, what's that rectangular rout that goes through the body?
Is that for a Kahler?
The neck heel looks like a PRS.
