So oh most weisened of heimers......tell us mere phillistines about the last time you spent a thousand yankee dollahs on a single-item purchase, what that item was, and how did it perform on your grueling tour schedule.
Pics would be heppful, an' no -- your skateboard, glow-in-the-dark Nikes, an' XBot do not count.

I'm not impressed by much anymore, but this thing really grabbed me. It was really hard to walk away without pulling the trigger. It's only one channel but what a channel.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
FWIW, Phantoman is far from a true 'southerner' - he lives in AZ for crying out loud, LOL! Now me, I am a 'southerner,' my family having been here in N. Fla since before it was a state.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
Gris, I heard that the long hunk of land sticking out at the bottom of the US, known as Florida, was formed by southerners throwing rocks at gators. Is that true?
Heck, in Canada a southerner is someone from Windsor, just across the river from Detroit.

It certainly wasn't me.
What I am is an extremely comfortable transplanted retiree who hasn't had need to punch a time card in some ten years now.
After living or serving in some 35 states and about twenty foreign countries I chose to call this modest six-figure tumbleweed farm "home". It's owned outright via the "thanks of a grateful nation" and I have thoughtfully parleyed my meager monthly stipend into a portfolio adequate to serve my foreseeable needs.

Detroit is the only place in the contiguous US that you can look directly South into Canada.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
Alex, I'll take the "Best amps under $1000" category for 50.
The Civil War has been over for over 140 years....the yankees won, but we got Allman Brothers and NASCAR, so it all worked out in the end.
Moi? American by birth, Southern by the grace of God.
I played Army for a short while...the grateful nation thanked me with a poke in the eye.
Nowdays, being tired of the heat of north Texas, I live in a modest log house just west of the Poconos....Land of the enemy. :biglaugh:
Oh well, all my friends around here are Yankees. Days think Ah's talk funny when Ah say "Y'all". So, all yous guys settle down! :ola

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
All sorts of people everywhere.
Coming from this pup who grew up in upstate NY, hung out in AZ for about three years, and have called South Carolina home for nearly twenty.
Don't let the funny accent fool you.
Many of the people here come from the strong german/dutch heritage that the southern teir of NY had.
As well as many other areas of the US!

I can see Canada from my house! Southern Canada to! And I don't even live in Detroit.

So if you stand outside your house and look directly south you are looking at Canada?

Now that the DRRI is over 1000 dollars, I resubmit a metroamp jtm45 ($950) as being a prime choice.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
come on guys...lets get real...racism exists everywhere.
i live in southern georgia. my city's population is 75 % black and 25 % white. do you think there is some racism here? yes...redb...not to single you out, but what about the racism against irish and other european immigrants in the late 1800's-early 1900's? every region has their own form...even the north...like it or not, racism is going to happen regardless of the fact that people are for and against it. i am not racist...but back on the subject...
i think the egnator amps are a good buy for the money, if not a little gainy.

Regional animosity in Canada is mostly an east-west thing or a French-English thing. We don't have a lot of north-south antagonism because most of live as far south as we can, huddled along the border for warmth.

Unless you're referring to the public high schools, perhaps. The university system in this state is top-notch, and there's just as much culture in the DFW area as in just about any place outside of NYC, Paris, or other 'high-end' culture centers. The museums in Fort Worth and Dallas are every bit as good as other areas.
As a matter of fact, Dallas is one of the 'Big 6' markets in respects to Design, which includes NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Portland (OR), and San Francisco. I know, I have a design degree and a lot of friends in the biz in the area. The music scene here is equally as good if not better.
There's been tons of good info in this thread up until this page. And, like lots of other gear-related topics, it's devolved to a 'my opinion is better than yours' thing.
Too bad.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
I'm not seeing much love here for either the Vox AC15 or the Peavey Delta Blues, two amps that I think sound pretty cool, although not in the same ballpark as, you know, that two-grand stuff from Carr, Bogner and Rivera.
I haven't tried the handwired edition of the AC15, but a couple examples of the regular version that I've tried in the stores made everything sound good. Anyway, it's the lead contender on my wish list.

Dude, if you're going to criticise someone else's grammar - by all means, run a spell-check. Why, in the quoted paragraph above, you have misspelled 'ridiculous.' Plus, you leave off the apostrophe in your contractions - it's I'm, not Im. Other examples include aren't, haven't, isn't, etc.
Before trying to remove the mote in your brother's eye, it's a good idea to remove the beam from your won.
Oh, and Phantom does not write like that because he's some dumb hayseed - to the contrary, he's writing in a dialect, much like Mark Twain did - and to be able to write in a dialectical fashion implies that the writer actually has a greater command of the language.
Oh - and one more thing...how can someone who has lived for - as you say - a long time in Massachusetts be unable to spell the state's name?
-

LOL Doc! True dat!
And by typing this in a dialect I in no way imply that I am - nor do I imply that I ever have been - a person of color. NTTAWWT. YMMV. FWIW.
RedB - I am sure Mass is beautiful - so are the Adirondacks and the Poconos and the gorges at the south ends of some of the finger lakes. However, I have to mention something that occurred to me - you seem to have a problem with attitudes in the South and Midwest - well, here in Rochester, NY - otherwise known as Rottenchester by many of her residents - you walk down a street and avoid eye contact with most everyone. Maybe if you - by accident - make eye contact you mumble 'hey' or 'how's it going' or just nod. It's weird when some stranger actually smiles at you. Well, when I've been down south to Myrtle or to Raleigh to visit my Grandmother, or out in the midwest for one reason or the other - everybody is warm and friendly and open - the exact opposite of where I live. I don't see those places as seething pits of racism, ignorance, and summerteeth - hell, if my kids didn't live this far north - nor my parents - you can bet I'd head to warmer climes.

Both of which I have owned. I still own the AC15. (English version).
The DB is a very solid amp - though I sold mine to (stupidly) get a HRDx. The DB sounded better, although there is some EL84 tube rattle inherent in the design - the positioning of the tubes relative to the speaker (I think) added to the noise.
As for the AC15 - the new ones sound great, although I must say I don't like the reverb as much as I like the reverb on mine. It's more splashy, and much deeper, but doesn't sound natural. The DRRI IS a better amp, no question about it - but I have become so used to my AC15 that I stick with it.
-
Re: best amp for under 1000.00
Hey Lets all agree we are human beings with the same needs and move on. The DRRI is still $949.00 at the guitar center here and I have seen the inside of modern Marshall amps, they are poorly designed as my tech said the cheapest built amps today. My techs words not mine.

Now there's a statement I can agree with! Although, I'm liking that BFPR in that stack.
Oh, Thegeezer, it's pretty cool that you're still seeing the DRRI for $950.
With the price hikes mentioned here recently, I'm really encouraged as far as hand-built amps go. Because it's not too hard to turn a profit for a hand-wired version of the same amps at RI prices. Of course, it wouldn't have certain logos on the cab and faceplate.

Mmmmm. I think an AC15 with an outboard tank would give a DRRI a run for it's money. The AC15 is a perfect Tele amp, IMHO.

Re: best amp for under 1000.00
I'd hate to price the new Bassman 59s. Among Fenders amps I've tried, that one seemed to be the richest sounding.
I haven't tried 'em all, though.
