The only place I've ever heard MS bashed was here at TFF. If you do a search, you'll find that song mentioned in 29 threads. In those threads it certainly has less lovers and more haters, but you do see some interesting contrasts, for instance:

Really, go listen to it and tell me that the constrained, minimal groove isn't the coolest.

 I guess it isn't the HRD of songs after all.
And before you try to reconcile the two threads OA, don't bother--I really don't care, just thought it was funny. I'd agree that ANY music done in a bashing style without taste and at maximum volume bothers me too.
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
No prob Pete. What I meant by MS and the HRD analogy is that it seems to be a lightning rod and everybody seems to choose up sides, but apparently I did a poor job of expressing that sentiment. I dig the song, a lot, when done well.
It's also good to see my views have been consistent, he he. Don't want to get labeled a "flip flopper", LOL!
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
No, you chimed in on a lot of those 29 threads and you were actually very consistent. And your point is really 100 percent valid about arrangements. It's just that if I read this thread alone, I'd get the impression you hate the song from your posts above, but you clearly don't. You just hate crappy cover bands, and on that, we agree wholly! :ha
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
And, FWIW, others in this same thread who do hate it have also consistently hated it over the last several years, although nobody was quite as vocal as pbradt. Reading those old threads, one can see he REALLY hates it. :D
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
Cool, and viewed through the lens of the original premise of the thread, I think this particular song is a great example of why I'm a stickler for dynamics!
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
pbradt never left any doubt as to how he felt about anything.
THAT'S NOT A REAL TELE!!!

well, my friend, you are NOT a poser.
you may be a weekend warrior(<term;yuk!), but you're NOT a poser.
and a true weekend warrior ONLY plays on the weekends. (eg;like the guys who play flag-football).
We practice during the week for a weekend performance, right? Maybe we should be considered semi-pros?...or Triple-A players?
are the Dallas Cowboys weekend warriors?....:wah:
sorry, not too fond of that term(WW)

OK, Frank, I'll settle for that... whatever we decide to call it...;-)

"you're on my ignoor list, pal"
I recall that one frequently
Re: Reasons to not join / quit bands
Frequently enough that eventually, when Pete logged on, all he saw were his own posts.
What's wrong with "weekend warrior?" I think it has a heroic quality to it. When i was writing for EQ, I called the column "Guest Room Warrior," as I was writing to the legion of new-media producers who work from their homes... spare bedrooms, converted garages, and basements like my own. We just as serious about our work as anybody, we just happen to be set up in the guest room (for a lot of good reason, including low overhead and huge home office tax advantages).

My lead singer is a major control freak
I cannot stand it any longer
Keeps complaining, drama freaking out on people
I'm going to quit, book myself and hire people as I go.
