I'll stick my neck out here...
On brand new guitars, nitro vs. poly is a toss up. But, nitro finshes breathe and shrink with age. Nitro allows the wood to dry out, while poly will seal in the moisture. I have a friend who has a '55 Strat. I've known him for 30 years, and he's always had this guitar. The guitar sounds better today, and is lighter than it used to be. Is it because of the nitro? Maybe. I do know if it had a boat finish like the new guitars, since he takes such good care of it, it would be like it was when it was new. I like things with a little mileage on 'em.:D
