Jazz bass chrome p/u covers

I just got a mim jazz bass & have been thinking of getting a set of chrome covers for the pickups. It seems like in the old days a lot of players took them off, but I kinda like the way they look. Yea or nay? I also think I would like to put on a finger rest. Anyone know why Fender stopped putting these on? I just started playing bass again after about 30 yrs, it's coming along ok, but I'm gonna take a few lessons soon. I can't seem to prevent it from farting out on the lower strings. I need a "real" bass player to look it over & see if it needs a setup.

Older jbasses have 2 chrome covers, a big "ashtray" embossed with an F over the bridge pu & a bridge over the neck pu. They're huge & I was wondering if people who have had them liked them or not. The farting out is either plugged or unplugged & is the (mainly low E & A) string hitting the next fret below. I turned the treble all the way down on the amp which helped some, & playing with a pick seems to help some (?). Do a lot of bass players use a pick? I thought most used either their thumb or 2 fingers. I tell you what, bending notes on bass is tough (hah). I'm going for a lesson sat, & that should tell the tale.

Parts is parts....go to the website and BUY 'em! I put covers on my 96 American Std P-Bass and on my Dad's 97 American Std J-Bass. They give the guitar a very cool vintage look and you can use them as a thumbrest.

Put the ashtray over the bridge, if you want, but leave the middle one off. It really gets in the way.

I actually like prefer the opposite approach--middle cover only or no covers at at all. It's comfortable to me either way fingerstyle. With a pick, I prefer no covers.
