The Sunday Thread for June 8, 2025. In Memoriam.
I don't feel quite right posting a Sunday thread, given that many of us came here today and were greeted by the news that Roger (Phantomman) had passed.
I never had the pleasure of meeting him - heck, I've not met anyone from here! - but Roger was a regular poster here, and his presence brought knowledge, insight and a community warmth to the place. There's another thread devoted to remembering him, so I'll just keep the Sunday thread alive here.
Which is to say there's nothing really new to report here. We're expecting cloudy skies and rain today, as befits an early June day. I've started running again, after realizing my relatively sedentary lifestyle hasn't been good for me. Oh, I walk a lot, but I've neglected other forms of exercise, so I've now pulled out some weights and unpacked my running shorts and have decided it's time to ramp up the ol' cardiovascular system.
So saying, I'm heading off to the volunteer fire department this morning for their monthly breakfast fundraiser. It's the best breakfast in town for ten bucks, and it all goes to support those who respond whenever someone dials 911. After breakfast, it's the routine: Church, maybe lunch (two meals out in one day???) some afternoon baseball, some guitar playing (my current streak is 105 days) and yes, weather permitting, some exercise. For the peace and quiet of retirement, it seems my days are quite full.
I hope everyone else has a full, summer day. Rest in peace, Roger.

bro's GF is off to her grandchild's christening and her dog is staying here, without her mom. The cat is probably going "WTF?" They get along ok, the dog is real good and only wants to be friends. the cat not so much. At least he doesn't hiss at her as much.
I keep getting fret-blocked when I want to play. People say they're going to go do something and I think I have a chance to play only to find out they've changed their mind or end up leaving the dog with me and the cat. Or they go to bed wicked early. I'm getting a little frustrated. I need to build up calluses and I need to listen to my pickups prior to swapping them. I want to know how much difference they make, if any.
Construction is slated to begin anew this week. I intend to participate this time to help move it along.

Played an out-of-towner last night got home 3AM. Weird vibe. We walked in and the place looked great. Big stage, nice and clean. Crowd was -unusual. Started off with a bunch of 60+ mavins for the dinner crowd while we set up in the ballroom, and then by 8PM they were replaced by working girls- a lot of them- and redneck youngsters . Room sounded terrible. We gave them a good show, packed up and got the heck out of Dodge.
Got home and found out I have family of raccoons living in garage. They have little babies so I don't want to use them for target practice but last night one started growling at me. As long as they stay out of my bass boat I'll let them slide for a while but if they trespass onto it there will be consequences.
Woke up this morning and walking the dog I noticed the white trash neighbors have added a new feature to their uncut back yard to go with the dirt bike tracks and general crap like cut trees and a pit to burn their trash. They now have chicken coup. So at least the raccoons, foxes, eagles and coyotes won't go hungry. Dumbasses. Mind you, it gets down to minus 20F here and they have no electricity to the henhouse.

It’s been a hectic week here behind the Cheddar Curtain. On Monday we went to the orthopedic dude to get a jell shot in my wife’s knee and that turned into a total knee replacement for her on Thursday. Woke up Friday morning and there’s blood coming out of her knee like someone turned on a tap, so back to the hospital where four more stitches are in stalled along with a little “surgical glue” to seal her up. I think we did four trips back and forth to the hospital in all.
With her being the tough old biker girl she is, we went out for dinner last night and breakfast with friends this morning. I had to laugh when she’s asking the surgeon how long before she could get on the Harley again.
Rock on friends, I hope she’s a good week for you.

Today I did church, got my oil changed, filled up with gas, then promptly forgot it seems all I know about playin guitar. Took a nap after an hr of frustration then ate dinner. Hopefully all the bad mojo is gone tomorrow.

I've had days like that. Usually when I take the stage. At home, there are times when I'm a friggin' maestro on guitar. When no one's listening.

It royally pissed me off. Granted it?s a guitar I haven?t spent a lot of time with but still. It?s Fender scale length. I was on wrong frets all over the place.

(Just between you and me and the lamppost, I've been working on three new (to me) songs that all require using a capo. Two of them on the third fret and the other on the fourth fret. Danged if I don't lose my way around the fretboard when taking the lead portion.)
