The Sunday Thread for February 23, 2025
I'm up early after having attended my annual benefit dinner last night, and will be heading out to sea in a few hours. It will be nice getting away from the cold for a while, although this week is supposed to be a precursor of Spring. I wonder if that means I'm in for blistering heat? Well, there's A/C on board, so I'm not likely to be complaining.
I broke my daily practice streak yesterday. I could have re-assembled my travel guitar, but I just didn't want to have to go through the trouble. I'll start a new streak today after I board.
Wishing everyone a great Sunday!

The strange weather continues here on the western shore of Lake Michigan with last week’s temperatures being sub zero and this week hitting the low 40’s. I think most of the snow cover we have will be melting off for the second time this winter.
After church my wife and I are off to a Sunday morning brunch with friends in our Corvette club and it is always a pleasant time getting together with them.
Hope all have a great week.

Busy day yesterday as my to do list was in excess of 50 items. Got a chunk done, but still have 17 to go today. Not sure I will get all done.
I'd like to take pics and start some local postings of some gear I am selling.
If any of this interests you, let me know ASAP.
1997 Parker Fly Deluxe in Plum, very good condition
2009 Rickenbacker 360/12 in Fireglo, comes w/ uninstalled Ric 12 saddle bridge and Toaster pups. Very good condition.
2023 Gibson SG Special in Cherry. Excellent condition.
2019 Fractal Audio AXE-FX 3 with FC-12, 2 Fractal expression pedals on a Temple Audio board. Has case. The Fractal AXE is in a rolling 6U rack. Freebies include old Line 6 wireless unit and Furman power supply.

been chopping the ice off my driveway for 2 days in a row now that it has finally been getting up to and over 32 degrees. Today is going to be almost 40. Finally got some rock salt, 29 dollars a bag. Two maybe three more days of chopping and I should be entirely clear of ice and be ready for the inevitable next storm, which thankfully is not in the current 10 day forecast. That can be different 3 hours from now.
Bro finally stayed at his GF's place last night, first time in about 5 months and the first of this year but now I have the nephew here sleeping in the living room. Probably wouldn't have played guitar anyway because my hands were so beat from all the ice chopping. It's going to be too bad that the room downstairs isn't more soundproof because I'm tired of not playing because somebody is in the house. They're going to find out how effective going the cheap easy route is - not. Don't want to listen to me before you build? Then you'll get to listen to me after it's done.
Sold my acoustic guitar this week, got my bass up for sale now. Lot of clicks, 3 responses (no "Is it still available?") but then nothing. If I had a packing box for a bass, I'd put it on Reverb. I'd put it on Talk Bass but I don't have a supporter membership and I'm not about to just to sell one bass. Going to put my MJT Strat up for sale today or tomorrow.

Just waking up. Played two nights straight so I?m bushed. Last night had sound go down moments before the first song. Really proud of the sound crew. Had a new board out of the trailer and plugged in in no time. Not sure what happened but apparently the routing got messed up in one of the computers.
Once I get motivated I?ll go out and start getting bass boat organized.

Been buying used furniture and dropping it off at the house the past couple days.
Found a bunch of stuff on Marketplace, rented a trailer, recruited some help, and we're moving. Just 7 miles from where we are now, but it's an entire house with now close neighbors. Nice size rehearsal space at ground level so, let the jams begin!
Heading out to the local blues jam at 2:00 today. Great players. Excellent host. good times.
Then I may go look at a used Yamaha Revstar guitar for sale. I love the clean lines and simple styling of this guitar. Seriously awesome reviews everywhere. Light weight and purpose built!

Feeling a bit stupid about now. A month or so ago I got and built a Stewmac Fuzz pedal kit, and I've been enjoying it since I got it. Last weekend, I was playing it and all of a sudden I startede hfearing an ungodly noise coming through it. I started pulling it apart, checking every connection, solder joint etc, putting it back together, rinse and repeat. Nothing helped, though when I plugged it in, it cut back when I touched the metal of the guitar, so I figure it;s in the grounding. Apart, check everything, etc.
So I got fed up with it last night and plugged in my other board - got the same sound. Went over to the fuzz, grabbed a different cable, and it's working perfectly. Dumbass me didn't think about checking the cable - unscrewed the connector, and there it is. Cable's broken. Guess I got my money's worth out of it - a Monster Performer 500, though I've had it for probably 25 years, it's been my main guitar cable since then. :arhhh:
Finally warming up a bit to get rid of the ice skating rink that's been the driveway and sidewalk, no matter how much salt I put down, it didn't make a dent for the past week and a half or more. It's been an adventure taking the dog for his walks 3 to 4 times a day without wiping out and killing myself.
Other than that, the weekend has been work, kiddo's hockey, etc. Kid's in the middle of about a 3 week run there's maybe 2 days off the ice (some of which is open skate over school vacation last week,)

don't feel bad. I thought my old silverface Princeton Reverb needed work. I replaced the speaker, still no good. replaced the tubes. Nope. Took it to a tech, paid for 2 hours of bench time. Nada. Brought it home, still same badness. Finally somebody said "Try a different cable." Ta-dah !! that was it.
