Sunday morning thread for January 19th
Since I?m up early I might as well start the Sunday tread.
A loud bang outside woke me up around 4:00 AM and I soon found around four squad cars on the street and eventually a fire truck. I know at least one vehicle ended up on a neighbor?s lawn and there might have been another involved as I saw a second roll-back truck at the intersection a block away. A little excitement for a start to the day.
Not much going on as the temps are sub-zero so it will be breakfast with friends and a day of relaxation. Hope all have a great week.

Wow, Laker! Gas explosion? That's happened twice in the past few years around here. Scary stuff!
Thanks for starting the Sunday thread. Although I woke up first thinking it was Monday, as I'd stayed up to watch one of the most fascinating football games in recent memory. It doesn't hurt that I'm a fan of the Commanders (what a stupid name, but I digress). A final score of 45-31 speaks to the defensive struggle both teams waged. But since there was a local guy talking smack about the Lions on NextDoor, it was kind of nice to have him eat his words (I tried to keep it adult and civil, but just rising to the bait was admittedly a little on the immature side. Still, you don't go into someone's home and then tell them they have an ugly baby...)
So it's Sunday. Another five inches of the white stuff is predicted, so having a couple of games on the tube today will be a nice way to stay warm and dry. I'm debating even going out to church and may take the cowardly way and Zoom in.
I've decided to attend the Artisan Guitar Show in April. That could be dangerous for me, as I might wind up having a guitar follow me home! One of my favorite luthiers, Peggy White, has said she'll be there and I'd love to see and play one of hers. Yum.
So, I'm all stocked up on bread, milk and toilet paper. Now it's time to go out an abandon my car! Stay safe, stay warm.

Been playing like a fool for weeks now trying to get back on my chops after a brain stem surgery in May put my playing in the trash.
It's coming along really well! There are some things that are just plain gone, but the neuro system seems to find ways to re-route the signals and new nuances emerge. It's actually pretty cool.
Put a new, small pedal board together yesterday and it works the treat! Micro Tuner, Micro TS9, Compressor. Just the essentials.
Heading out to the Hill Town Blues jam today to try out the new chops and the new board. Great players and terrific host.
Some snow coming overnight and temps dropping to 0 degrees at night with single digits and low teens during the day until Saturday. That's a bit cold for this area.
All in all, things are good. Stress is low. Living it large!

I took lessons briefly from a player who'd been taught by Pat Martino. Martino's story is an amazing one of recovery. In brief, following surgery after a brain aneurysm he forgot everything he knew about playing guitar. One of the best guitarists in jazz, he worked his way back and regained his crown. Recovery is possible! Good luck, Bob.

Bob - you got this!
Snow predicted here, as well. Sunny and 41 degrees, but the weather pukes are predicting anywhere from a 1/2" to 9". Also supposed to have real cold weather for the week. Glad I'm no longer in the heating business!

Did chores around the house yesterday, took a nap and watched foosball. Today played bass at church, filled up with gas, going to take a nap (haven't been sleeping well) and then more foosball.
OS Peggy White hmm? Didn't she originate the Manzer wedge design, or is a strong advocate for it vs the beveled top? I recall this back when I was in discussions to have a McKnight built.
Yep, she worked with Linda Manzer. You thinking Premier, OM or Parlor? Sorry to say, her website shows nothing as available. Current orders are scheduled for 2027.
If you think custom electrics are expensive, look at custom acoustics you need to commission the build of.
(I was looking at a McKnight Diamond over a decade ago. I should have done it. I would have made 100% on it now and been out then about the same as the Martin D-18 Authentic I got last year.

You can probably tell me more than I can tell you. She spent three years apprenticing to Linda Manzer after starting with Larivee Guitars and working with other luthiers, including Michael Pellerin. She and I exchanged private emails briefly when she learned I had inquired about her guitars. She's already signed up for Artisan, so that's my underlying motivation.

recuperating after beverages last night, not about to go teetotal but don't really wish to do that any more. Kept me from playing on the last night bro and GF were away. Been cleaning the house, napping, do more stuff, nap. Half time of first game. Bro texted he's going to get food and go to friend's house, so no idea when he's getting home. Starting to drizzle/sleet/snow. Thinking of zipping to Home Depot for more cleaning supplies
progress on the music room continues. The ceiling is up and now the room has echo, lol. I'd been testing via hand claps, the walls barely caused any echo. Looks like I'll be using rugs to tame that a bit. I've always wanted a persian rug for a jam space.
Mini split head unit installed, outside condenser installed. Supposedly they're coming tomorrow to connect those up, then it's up to the electrician to hook them to power. Doors are likely to be done this week. Tape and mud, and my least favorite part, sanding.
