The Sunday Thread for September 11, 2022

Good morning, everyone! Today marks the 21st anniversary of the attacks on the twin towers. While a full generation has now grown up without memory of this horrible event, I don't want to forget it. Prayers to all the innocents who lost their lives as a result.

Yesterday, my family took me to a Renaissance Festival. I last went when I was fresh out of college, so I wasn't prepared for how it had grown. The crowd was incredible! The weather was great, my granddaughter got he hair braided and my grandson got a wooden sword, so everyone was happy. We came home, had Chinese carryout for dinner, and I loved spending the day with my family.

Today is Sunday-as-usual as far as activities go. Church in a short while, lunch, practice some guitar, and get my mind prepared for the week of training ahead. I have come to the realization, after doing a lot of online research, that no tab exists for the guitar solo I'm wanting to learn, so I have to go back to the old "play the record over and over until I get it" process. I thought modern technology had rendered that kind of learning obsolete! :roflmao

Played a bass gig last night. Remembering those that were impacted 21 years ago. Getting ready for church now. After church, I’ll watch the F1 race, pay some bills and work on my Ric 360-12 some I think.
Then work on some music for later this week as I have 4 gigs. 1 on acoustic 12 with the other 3 on bass.

Next week could be busy.

It’s Sunday again…

Took my usual 85 mile drive to rehearse with the band and finish writing my first song with them at the studio. Having always been just a guitar player, I’m having to learn how to sing!

Just had scrambled eggs with black coffee for breakfast with my wife and the plans for the day consist in having lunch with my old folks and watching TV.

Later on I’ll have a Bud or six and play guitar. Tough week ahead.

I hope all have a great Sunday and new week! Not much going on here behind the cheddar curtain on the western shore of Lake Michigan, just a wet, gloomy day so I think it's time for a Bloody Mary or three.

I thought I would beat the heat and cut my lawn while it was still "cool" outside (mid 70'sF), so I got out there around 7:30, but it was very humid, and now that I am finished I'm sitting in front of a portable air conditioning unit and a fan trying to cool down before taking a shower.

This week I will be getting my studio in shape, as my buddy has written a few songs and wants to record them. Mostly cleaning several years of cat hair and dust from under the main desk so it doesn't get inside the ProTools computer when I fire it up. I will also have to tune my drum kit after taking it all apart last year when I cleaned and polished everything.

it's clouding up here but no rain in the forecast. Quiet day for me but not for the first responders. I live near an intersection that is used a lot every day by the fire station a mile up the road. This morning has been particularly busy.

Took a break this week from selling guitars. Time to start up the process anew now that I bought an amplifier, which I'm going to pick up tomorrow. Might bring some guitars with me and see what kind of prices they offer. I've got to think about a new phone in the not too distant future and I don't want them to get sold out before I try to buy.

I should assemble a tele project that has been in hiatus for four years now. Then I can decide which tele shape object to keep. I need to sell before people start worrying about christmas. I want to get it all done so come February when my brother goes to FL for a month, I have the herewithall to get the music room built. I still have to decide which way I'm going to go, construction-wise.

oh, and football today. Our schedule has a lot of 1 PM games this year, finally. Guess the NFL doesn't have much expectations for us. Fine by me.

Still on the mend, so light duty right now. Off pain pills except for some Tylenol and Motrin at bedtime. It's such a pain not doing things that I normally don't think about. The hardest "order" is to not lift anything heavier that 10# for a month. Last week my lawn was brown and I anticipated a month before I had to cut it again. Then we got 3"-4" of rain and now it's green and growing fast - and I can't cut it for a while. My grandson will come over next Saturday and cut it for me. I'm going to work from home and do only remote meetings next week. The four incisions give me no problems, but they are right at my waist, so pants and belts are rubbing right at the wrong spot. Sweat pants rule!!! The following week 'I'll have a busy week, including three nights out plus facilitating a Saturday retreat. I'll be ready for sleep by Saturday afternoon! Also stuck driving the Nissan Frontier for a while (not that it isn't also fun to drive) - too much trouble bending myself into the Mustang for a week or two.

I know how that must suck, GJ. I have to scrunch to get in and out of my Chevelle and whenever my arthritis flares up it can be a real PITA. Hand in there though, it's only a month. You'll make it.

Before our youngest was born, I traded for an MG-B that needed some work. My bride really loved that car, and enjoyed driving it. When she was almost 8 months along with our youngest, I came home from work, and she told me she was going to the store, and I heard my truck leave. I checked her car, starts OK, runs good, so when she got home I asked her what was wrong. She started to cry, and said "I just can't get in it anymore"! We traded vehicles for a while, and I put her in a "real" car, but kept the MG until she decided we shouldn't keep a car that wasn't used much.

That, right there, is the big mistake that oh so many of my Corvette driving friends made when they thought they got old and sold their cars. I kept mine and drove it (ended up owning it for 53 years) and sold it for 20+ times what I paid for it. After completing 76 trips around the sun I still have this one in the garage.

The sad thing, Laker, I peddled the MG for a healthy price, and a month later, my friend getting a divorce, offered me his '63 Vette for a grand. My bride had decided the "spare" money should buy furniture, and it did!

The company I work for offered triple donation matching for the week of 9/11. I had already donated to Tunnel 2 Towers (t2t.org) for 9/11 and found out they were tripling my donation as a result. Wow.

My uncle was a volunteer fireman in Secaucus, NJ (although didn't go over into NYC) and was in the rear with the gear.
