NGD! Alvarez DELTA00/TSB Blues-Jazz Guitar

No, sorry, this isn't the custom guitar I'm having made. Maybe I'm just getting antsy, but I've been felling a little cramped with my Gretsch Jim Dandy's 12 frets, and my Taylor sounds much too good to be a "campfire" (read: visit the grandkids) guitar. My KLŌS is a great travel guitar, but works best in a hotel room and not in front of my family. So, I came across this Alvarez DELTA00/TSB Blues & Jazz guitar, and when I was made an offer (including free shipping) that was lower than any I'd seen, I hit the "buy" button. I just unpacked it and tuned it up, so I haven't had time to bond with it, but I was struck that it's actually larger (that's the 00 size, I guess) than my Taylor!

Talk about synchronicity! A couple of weeks ago I found myself in Lone Pine, California where, among other things, is the Lone Pine Museum of Western Film (Lone Pine sits outside the Alabama Hills, where a lot of westerns -- and car commercials -- were shot). Visiting the museum, I was treated to a showing of "Under Western Stars," the 1938 starring debut of Roy Rogers! Man, did he look young! And he sings -- and yodels -- in the film. I later learned that Roy Rogers (real name, Leonard Slye) learned to yodel when as a youth working he and his mother would communicate to each other across the fields by yodeling. Who knew?

The instrument itself is very reminescent of the Stella and Harmony guitars from the early '60s.

And yes, PM, you're correct, but I was thinking of the guitar as an ideal of Roy or Gene, the lone cowboy singing and playing guitar while sitting on his steed--the kind of image that made men like my Dad love horses and guitars. I always think of two great songs when I think of Roy and Gene.

I really like the looks and feels of these parlor sized acoustics, they look like something you'd carry in a stagecoach back in the old west. They have this "cowboy guitar" thing to them.

Well, I've decided the Alvarez isn't for me. It's a well made guitar, has a great sound to it, but the neck and I just don't get along. I adjusted the relief, but the neck itself is just too chunky for my hands. In addition, the 00 size is NOT a parlor, but is roughly the same size as my dreadnaught 12-string. I think I'm going to use this as my trial use case for selling on Reverb.

In the mean time, I came across a Breedlove "Organic Signature Series Companion CE" that checks all the boxes for me: Solid wood (African mahogany back & sides, Torrified Spruce top), 14 frets, sized about the same as my Gretsch Jim Dandy, and priced attractively! The clock is now ticking on the brown truck...
