Talk Me Off the Ledge, Folks

I joined a topic thread on another site and the conversation turned to the Gretsch Jim Dandy. The number of overwhelmingly positive comments was astounding. Universally, was the amazement at the quality and sound of this guitar at a ridiculous bargain-basement price!

Because I can't help myself, I thought I'd find out what this stupid low price was. New, retail: $!69 US. That's not a misprint. Not a loss leader. It's the price!

And it comes in several flavors. There's a guy on Reverb selling a used one in mint condition for $149. Free shipping. Yikes!

I need another small acoustic guitar like The Walking Dead needs more zombies. But still...

That's cool! Does it have ladder bracing? I have an old Harmony that looks kinda like that and has ladder bracing. It sounds like the blues and cost about $50.

got any room out there?

I didn't need to see this. I can throw it on top of the pile of gig bags and cases and for 69 dollars, it's almost a no-brainer

The specs are actually quite impressive. For a buck-and-a-half guitar.

• Basswood body with X-bracing
• 12th fret, 24”-scale nato neck
• Walnut fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays
• Walnut top-load bridge with compensated saddle
• Single-ply white pickguard with “G” graphic
• 1950s-style vintage open-gear die-cast tuning machines and vintage end-pin strap buttons
• Nickel hardware

After so many purchases this last year, I won't get one of these. I sure like them though, and while most acoustics have a tilted bridge, that one has a straight one. A conversion to lefty would be a breeze.

I've wanted a knock-about acoustic, and this would match my needs.
