Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
I grew up on Benny Hill, Monty Python, Carlin, Cheech and Chong, Dave Allen, Andy Kaufman, Bill Murray and Dan Akyroyd, and Robin Williams, plus the older guys like Redd Foxx, Rickles, Bob Newhart, and others. And very importantly The Three Stooges and The Marx Brothers. I like animated comedies, Rick and Morty and Family Guy my favorites.
I'm a big fan of comedy, and I tend to watch more comedic movies and series than other genres.
I've always been attracted to comedy that satirized the awful conditions and people we experience while we're just trying to get by with a little love and happiness. It's the same with the reading I do.
What do you like in comedy?

There’s a lot out there that’s mediocre these days.
Ricky Gervais is consistently good and diversifies beyond stand up, although
his stand up is pretty good too. If you like Python, then you might appreciate Gervais.
My daughter turned me on to John Mulaney. He’s hilarious to me.

I don't know why I didn't mention Gervais. He's actually my favorite out there today.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
practically every one that ch willie mentioned. Mel Brooks' stuff is right up there. Which also means Gene Wilder. Gildna Radner is a favorite of mine. Christina Applegate is great. So is Julia Duffy. Often I've found that people who can pull off the dumb blonde bimbo are usually extremely sharp and articulate in real life.
Rodney Dangerfield. Sam Kinison. Ed O'neill. OMG, the episode of Married With Children where Sam plays Al Bundy's guardian angel in a spoof of "It's a Wonderful Life" is among the funniest skits evah.
Tim Conway. Harvey Korman. Carol Burnett. I loved to watch that show.
John Candy. Chris Farley. John Belushi. All gone too soon.
I loved watching Laugh-In. I'm definitely more into comedies than most other genres. I especially love animated stuff. I'm currently watching Archer on Hulu.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
I loved Eddie Murphy in "The Distinguished Gentleman" and Chevy Chase as arms dealer Eddie Muntz in "Deal Of The Century" was perfect. And who can forget Jack Lemmon as Ensign Pulver in "Mister Roberts"? While not known as a comedic actor, I loved Courtney B. Vance's portrayal of Pastor Henry Biggs in "The Preacher's Wife". He played the perfect foil to angel Denzel Washington. Hector Elizondo's role as the worldly hotel concierge in "Pretty Woman" is another humorous example of the craft.

Marty Feldman in “Young Frankenstein” is one of my all time favorites

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
I listen to Sirius radio comedy channels when I drive. Comedy Central, Raw Dog Radio, Netflix, the hits keep coming. I love Jeff Dunham, Jo Koy, Jim Gaffigan - I could go on all night!

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
I went through about a five year phase of listening to Howard Stern, going back to the early show up to the present for the classic bits. It's funny stuff, but it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I was never into the whole stripper thing, but the humor could be vicious and clever at times.

omg, Marty Feldman's Comedy Machine. Apparently only a single season of it made by the BBC, I haven't seen any since the '70s and scouring the Internet yielded nothing. I haven't looked in a long time, though.
I probably quote "Abby someone" at least once a day.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Young Frankenstein is one of my favorite films. It's one of the few that makes me laugh out loud even though I've watched it so many times. My favorite song in any movie in any era is "Putting on the Ritz" from this film. Peter Boyle is genius.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
I like most of the ones you mentioned, Willie.
Mel Brooks, Monty Python... when I was younger I liked National Lampoon.
Funny, I never really liked Robin Williams. The only movie I actually liked with him was that one with Al Pacino, which ain’t a comedy. Insomnia IIRC.
I also like Gene Wilder a lot.
I especially enjoyed Woody Allen’s comedies back in the 80s and early 90s.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Truth be told, most comedy these days offends me, so I avoid it. Vulgarity != Comedy, in my opinion. There used to be comedians I would gladly watch, ranging from the Three Stooges (the originals, with Curley/Shemp), Red Skelton, Jonathan Winters, Tim Conway, George Carlin, Steve Martin, to name those that come immediately to mind. But I don't seek out even old clips these days. I think I've become a curmudgeon.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
OS, I love clean comedians like Bob Newhart or Don Rickles.
But I also love vulgar humor that has a satirical point to it, comedy that takes the piss out of pretentiousness or one of the seven deadlies.
This guy was a clean comedian, and I'd forgotten him until this morning when for some reason I remembered the motorcycle with training wheels.
Pat Paulsen. Loved him. His campaigns for Prez were excellent.

I totally forgot to mention Steven Wright.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
W.C.Fields. Marx Brothers.
-
Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Wow, you guys keep throwing out some great names.
Marx Bros.
WC Fields--I hate it that we live in a world where so few people know who that is anymore. I sound like I'm 90 years old.
Steven Wright--genius.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Speaking of comedians, Carl Reiner passed away this morning.
Carl Reiner Passes.
-
Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Yes, I was going to post an RIP for the man.
He was clever and funny. Great actor, producer, writer. The man did it all.
I'm so glad I was born early enough to remember a lot of the old male and female comedians.
Reiner came right at the end of that era. He stayed with us a long time.
I'd love him if for no other reason than his work with Steve Martin on "The Jerk."
Mel Brooks lost his good friend today; I hope Mel sticks around a while. He's still sharp
and wildly funny.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
Mel and Carl were birds of a feather. It's got to be hard for him to see his friend go.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
So, when it comes to favorite comedians and comic actors, the list is endless! From the classics like Richard Pryor and Lucille Ball to modern-day geniuses like Dave Chappelle and Tina Fey, there's something for everyone's funny bone.
Now, let's talk about how to watch Hulu in Mexico. Well, ain't that a pickle! See, streaming platforms can be a bit tricky when you're outside their usual turf. But fear not, amigos! There are ways to work around it, like using a reliable VPN service to spoof your location. Just remember, tread carefully in the digital jungle!
As for my take on this topic, I reckon humor knows no borders. Whether you're laughing your socks off in New York City or kicking back in Mexico City, a good joke is a good joke. So, if you're down south and craving some Hulu goodness, you gotta get a little tech-savvy.

Re: Favorite Comedians / Comic Actors?
The current "woke" climate has killed comedy. I don't consider filth and four-letter words comedy.

Nah, I don't agree with that at all.
Let's see, Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog is hilarious.
Kate Mckinnon describing an alien abduction is one of the funniest things you'll ever see.
It's out there, you just need to go find it.
