New Practice Amp on Its Way
I got the last one of these that Sweetwater had in stock.
It's an Ibanez tubescreamer amp. Looks like a tiny television set; art deco design. I've read great reviews and watched a demo on youtube. Seems like a solid little tube amp. 5 watts. 1x8", tube screamer circuitry.

"Porch weasel." Now there's a term I could see using! :up

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
I've never heard that phrase and have no idea what it means, but I like it?

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
I've been using the phrase for over a decade.

Cool looking little amp... Congrats! :salud:
I believe it is discontinued, not always a good sign. I'm relying on reviews and the vid I've seen.

What is the origin or the phrase or what does it mean? I can't believe I've never heard it.

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
A "porch weasel" is any small tube amplifier with an output of 15 watts or less, driving a single speaker (usually an eight or a ten). This would include Fenders up to and including a Princeton Reverb, Champ, Harvard, etc. Back in the day many companies made such amps including Silvertone, Airline (Wards), Supro, Alamo, Teisco, Valco, Kalamazoo, etc. There used to be a website dedicated to such platforms but apparently it has disappeared. This is the illustration that was used on the banner page.....

That's gotta be the sweetst looking amp I've ever seen! I didn't know Ibanez made amps! Congrats, Willie!
Please tell us what you think of the sound when you receive it.

I will do so. I saw a vid demo of it yesterday on youtube. Man, if it sounds in person like it does on that vid, it's going to be a great little practice amp.

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
Sumnabitch and Holy farts, Batdude! This amp is seriously great. I didn't expect it. I figured it'd be an "okay" practice amp.
The cleans are beautiful, full, and verrrrry tube-y. The reverb is no where nearly as good as a Fender tube amp's, but the reverb sounds very good anyway. The amp shines too when I turn on the TubeScreamer OD. I don't know how close it is to the treasured pedals, but I'll be damned if it doesn't sound fantastic.
I'd gladly use this amp for any gig situation. Put a mic on it, and you're golden.
Unless there's some design flaw that's going to bite me in the ass, I can't understand why Ibanez discontinued the amp. Maybe sales figures prompted them to kill the model.

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
The little legs look cool, but does it make it jump and dance across the floor?

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
No renderit, but it does show classic sitcoms like Car 54 Where Are You and Dobie Gillis.

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
that could be distracting when you're trying to practice:laughing:

Not that he needs it, here's a reference of why that term has been around for a long time.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make a reply that references a link, but doesn't include a reference to a link to the following text after the link that doesn't exist.
Forum software leaves a lot to be desired.
Duh, finally figured it out. Not exactly a clear solution.
I hate software, but at least I accomplished what I set out to do.
Makes me think I did something I set out to do. Propably won't remember it in the future.

Re: New Practice Amp on Its Way
I run into Rickenjangle from time to time. I miss the days when Rickenjangle, Mikey and I were gigging together. We had a lot of fun, as some of the posters here who saw us play can attest to. Falling off stages, Rickenjangle serenading chicks at the bar, people mud-diving in front of the band and covering our gear with slop. Mikey directing traffic in the parking lot. What a crew. Johnny (Rickenjangle) is still performing and doing quite well both personally and professionally, which makes me happy. Most people here don't know it, but besides being a certified guitar slinger Rickenjangle is a truly gifted vocalist.
