Restringing a Stratocaster XII
Hey guys,
I have one of the reissue Strat XIIs from the mid noughties that I haven't really given any attention to for since buying it and now want to restring it so that it is usable again. My problem here is that according to my information, the original string set would be
Quote:
E .024W/.042W, A .016/.032W, D .011/.026W, G .009/.016, B .011/.011, E .009/.009
but this doesn't seem to be a set readily available by major string set manufacturers (Ernie Ball, etc) and most seem to be in the range 10-46.
Does anyone else here have one of these guitars and can maybe shed some light on the best guage strings to use?
Thanks in advance

Re: Restringing a Stratocaster XII
Can you get a 'normal' set and a 'Nashville' set in the appropriate sizes?
Re: Restringing a Stratocaster XII
I have a set of Ernie Balls 9-46, just in case the 11-52's are too heavy. Couldn't you just buy a set and some spares to make your set? Most music stores around where I live sell singles if you need them.
Re: Restringing a Stratocaster XII
Thanks for the answers guys, yes I could get a normal 6-string set and whatever singles to make up the original weights or I could go for a pre-packaged set. I was only asking really as the originally equipped set wasn't one of the pre-packaged set ranges and I had heard that 12-string instruments put extra stress on the neck.
As I am not bothered about getting exactly the same just for the sake of it, it looks like a pre-packaged set of 10-46s may well be in order

Cool beans, I didn't know how exact you needed. Best of luck dude.
Re: Restringing a Stratocaster XII
Chuck - just out of interest, you mentioned 11-52's and Ronworld on the UK thread in the Whammy Bar also said that those might be an option. Could you just confirm for me whether you use them and if so whether you de-tune a step (or even whether you de-tune between uses to reduce the neck tension) ?
Re: Restringing a Stratocaster XII
All my "Fender" scale guitars wear 11's. I'm a weirdo, as in I like Fenders with heavy strings and Gibsons with 10's. Go with what feels good for you though. But no, I don't detune.
