Replacement Rickenbacker Pups (Help!)
I've got a Ricky 330 from the mid/late '90s.It came with the stock "high gain" pickups, which I just couldn't bond with--no jangle, and a pronounced mid bump.Currently,I have a pair of GFS New York series (older model).....a little improvement, but still not there.

I know I can get the toasters from Rickenbacker----are there any other alternatives,TV Jones, ect? The last time I owned a Ricky it was an early '70s 360,and I miss that sound.
Much thanks in advance!

I believe that Dearmond/Dynasonics will fit.
Re: Replacement Rickenbacker Pups (Help!)
Thanks,Kap'n.....jangly tone,close to toasters?
Re: Replacement Rickenbacker Pups (Help!)
The stock ones that come in current Gretsches are fairly bright and jangly, but there's no neck/bridge model, so they end up being pretty mismatched. They're also pretty microphonic.
The TV Jones models aren't as inherently bright, but cranking up the treble on a BF/SF amp gives them all sorts of pleasant chiminess where you would get shrillness with a Strat or Tele. They're really nice. Duncan also makes them in their custom shop, but they're very expensive.
Don't have a lot of experience with the originals, but Billy Zoom thinks they're very close to toasters.
They're pretty picky as to heights. The consensus is to raise up the pickups as much as possible, and adjust the polepieces to match. There are some great diagrams to use as a starting point on The Gretsch Pages.
I'd love to have a 12-string with these.

For my red Gretsch that has the 2K's in it, I used that diagram and it really made the guitar come alive.
I'd say the 2K's are about as close to a toaster top as you could come without a toaster top.
By the way, I think that GFS might be making the TT pickups...but I haven't had great success with the GFS p'ups myself.
