Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
I didn't buy these from RS Guitarworks, but it was recommended by Hillbilly in this post: http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/tone...ml#post1490126. I got the Raw Vintage Saddles for my strat last week.
These are probably the most amazing things I've tried that aren't linked to the electronics that actually does improve the tones of my guitars.
Previously, my strat (American Vintage 57 Hot Rod loaded with CS fat 50s) was mushy in the neck (not muddy, but just not very focused), and a little ice-picky in the bridge. The in-between tones weren't much to write home about either.
Now, with these saddles, for some reason, the neck is still as chimey as before, but a lot tighter, and more focused. The inbetween are very sweet now, and the bridge, is bright, fat, and jangly, with no ice-pick! The guitar is also louder, and much more crisp acoustically!
I have no clue how the saddles alone can amount to this change, but it's really amazing how they changed the tone. They're not exactly cheap, but I'd say they were very worth it for this strat!
The next thing that Raw Vintage recommended (as did Billy) were the springs. Those were fully sold out locally, so I'll have to wait for them to come in.
I highly recommend you guys who play strats to go try these!

Hmmm who would have guessed
I have an old MIM 60s strat that need some pumping up.
Maybe these will help

I'm quite sure they would. Check them out!
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
I have five Raw Vintage springs installed on my '97 Cunetto.
Yes, it made a difference--fatter with a touch more sustain.
Really.
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
This stuff must be worth the money if it even improves a Cunetto which were made of the very best materials and specs availabel, I live in The Netherlands and realy would like to try these saddles and springs on my parts-o-caster which I'm trying to improve all the time just for the fun and knowledge, does anybody know if there is an online shop for them which wil sent to Europe? :Banjo: :odie:
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
Roy and the guys at RS are top notch.
My early production (8th RS guitar made) Stepside is a phenomenal axe. These guys really know tone.
If Roy is happy with Raw Vintage saddles that's enough for me.
As soon as the funds are available I'll be hitting Raw Vintage up! :dude

Thanks Gold Strat for that, I didn't think of the old evilbay.
But I did notice they have a dealer in Thailand and I will be in Bangkok in November, so I might hold out till then.

OR, if you transit here in Singapore, you might be able to pick them up too. Just that now, they're out of stock. Hope the springs come in soon.
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
Ordering directly at the site of phonekings is even cheaper, note it is not a big differance just 20% less or so! on the ebay there was an offer 5% less and got a realy great deal on them, will post when the springs and saddles are on and give a review! They are realy cheap for the postage to Your country, It wil just take a few weeks. :odie:

Hi Demioblue
Where abouts in Singapore? I lived there for 6 years back in the 90's so I know my way around most places.
Cheers
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
i put their springs on a strat i traded, they did help some. and the price was pretty reasonable. not snakeoil in my book, if you can get em, try em. i don't think they'll "save" a guitar. but if you have one you like and think it could be "more", then they'll probably deliver.
Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
Saddles and Springs arrived today and put them immediatly on the Strat and there was an instant improvement in the overall tone of the guitar especially on the bass side and deffenatly on the low E.
It is hard to tell what the Springs are doing for making a differance in tone, there were 3 on and now there is 5 and the overall stiffnes and resistance is about the same feel. The saddles are IMHO a major differance and wort the money for me, great stuff!! and the best quality I have ever seen. :appl:

Re: Raw Vintage Stuff - Thanks to RS Guitarworks!
Just installed the Raw Vintage springs in 3 different guitars. My Strat, a EBMM Silhouette Special, and a EBMM JPX 7 string with floating trem.
They are definately low tension springs, as 4 springs equated to almost but not quite the strength of the older 3, with some slight slack more. With a 5th spring, the tension seemed to be just a bit more than the previous 3.
These had a pretty huge difference in tone too, but not entirely positive in all cases. In the strat, the "bounce" seemed to be lost. The tone was tighter, and more "strong". Not exactly what I was after. The single coils I had in this were ToneRider Surfaris, which were nice and tight to begin with. Now the tones seemed to be beefed up a bit, but I wanted that "bounce" with the older springs.
But in the Silo Spec, where I'm running DiMarzio Cruisers, the tones tightened up very nicely, and that's where they worked well.
But the most interesting one was in the 7 string, where the tones not only tightened up, but beefed up quite nicely too!
This is pretty good stuff, to say the least, just that you'd have to take into account your current pickup's characteristics.
