Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
Maybe the guy knows a local guitar shop that would let him bring it there for you to test...or maybe he's got a practice space away from his home. Just some thoughts....
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
He did mention in the ad that it was recently serviced by Jeff Andrews of Andrews Amp Lab, so we could most likely meet there. Thanks Eli.
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
I've been to people's houses to check out gear without worrying too much about it...just leave the cash in the car till you know what' up. If he's selling a JMP he should be thinking that buyers are going to want to hear it do it's thing...which is kinda loud...so if he can't do that at his house he needs to figure out an alternative.
There's a rehearsal studio near my house that only charges $10/hour if you're by yourself. If I called and told them I was trying to sell something, they might let me do it for free if they weren't too busy and we were only there 10-15 minutes.
Or (and this isn't very nice :D) I bought an attenuator off CL a few weeks back, and the seller and I met at Guitar Center. I called ahead of time to make sure they had a DRRI-closest thing I'm gonna find to a Vibrolux-and told the sales guy I wanted to buy a new amp but try it with my attenuator first. Seller & I met in the parking lot, went inside and I tested the att. like I was testing the amp. Bought my merch in the store, told the sales guy I was going to keep looking for another amp. I felt kinda bad but I know I wasn't the only guy in there using GC's equipment with zero intent of buying anything...

Hmmm... I often wonder: What would Phantomman do in this situation ?
and what little friend would he bring along for the ride ?

Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
you have:
his name
address
phone #
Cell #
if I was gonna rob you, I don't know that I would provide you all that info..
Be safe, be smart but I would not loose too much sleep over it
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller

if he was meeting him on a motorized recliner, I would be concerned
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
OTOH if he came to YOUR house, robbed you, left his wallet then called asking for it back you have a better chance getting your stuff back.
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
Sounds like a good title for a song!

It all depends on how serious you are about personal defense. :D
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
I'd be more concerned w/having some CL stranger over to my house to "check out" my gear.
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
Yeah I've been apprehensive about that too. At my last apartment I had most of my music stuff out in the living room, but moved it into the bedroom when I sold my HRD so I could show the amp out there.
Someone here, I think it was Rickenjangle said he shows stuff in his garage which is also a good idea as long as you don't have a bunch of Snap-On tools or something laying around.
Re: Meeting Up With A Seller
I really had to weed through the nut-jobs when I put that enriched uranium on CL, let me tell ya
