your favorite cheap guitar?
it's gotta be my italia bass, the goofiest looking bass i swear. i always want to be disappointed with it, but i'm always impressed by it. sounds great, plays nice, stays in tune. i just put different tuners on it cause one was broke, so for now no MOTS tuner buttons. funny, this is the only guitar i've NEVER wanted to mod, she's cool just the way she is.

Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Sorta reminds me of an EKO, Chuck.
Nice.

Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Neato!
Now you need a Kustom 200 3 x 15 rig in blue sparkle tuck and roll!
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
or a whole wall of them! THAT would be awesome.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Don't forget the polyester leisure suit and a smoke machine......
:salud:
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
My favorite less expensive guitars would have to be my MIM Strat in Satin Midnight Blue (purchased in 2002 for $350) and my 2007 Les Paul Jr. (purchased new for $749).
Sorry those are about the least expensive I have that are favorites. The real cheap guitars aren't favorites at this time, though they might have been at some point in time.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
My 219 dollar Agile goldtop with p90s is a kickin' machine! That thing is pretty hard to beat. Had a Gretsch with TV Jones in it that I pieced together for 300 bucks. That was an awesome guitar too. Shouldn't have sold it.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
I like my Ibanez AS-83. Wasn't cheap, cheap, cheap, but still was awfully affordable for what it is.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
My all-time favorite cheap guitar only cost me $635 brand new.
It was a Gibson Les Paul Custom I bought in 1982. :brood: Man, have things changed.
I guess my favorite truly cheap guitar was an Electra "Working Man." Anybody know that one? I'd post a picture, but I foolishly sold it in 1982 (to a friend who tore it up with a big belt buckle) when I got that LP Custom (which I don't have anymore, either, dangit). It was kinda like this one:

But had standard Les Paul-type controls (three-way pickup switch, four volume and tone knobs in a diamond shape). It played like a dream; I didn't know enough about electric guitars at the time to realize what a great neck it had. :D
I wish I had the Gibson and the Electra back!

Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Love it, rudutch. I just wish those were as cheap over here...
I've got a PRS SE One that I really like.
Looks just like this one;

It's great, I just need to put a new nut on it.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
I really liked my PRS SE Soapbar, although it certainly did require a new nut.
But I played it so little, I ended up selling it to a kid in a punk-y band. I'll bet it's covered in stickers and scratches by now. Still, I got it so cheap, I sold it for every penny I had in it.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Yeah, I got mine dead cheap too!
If I ever do sell it I'm keeping the awesome gig bag.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Squier SQ series MIJ Tele...best $275 ever spent.
It's my main gigging and recording guitar. Plopped a set o' Custom Texas Special Tele' pu's in it a few years ago, otherwise, no changes.
Chucko, I've got a DiPinto Belvedere Deluxe w/ Bigsby. Black w/ huge pearloid scratchplate. Same kind of vibe as the Italia guits.
I'm having it re-fretted w/ Dunlop 6100 fretwire, CTS and Switchcraft components and a new nut. It's quite a spendy upgrade, but I loved how it looked/played and sounded.

The other favorite less-cheap but still inexpensive axe that I have is the Eastwood Sidejack Deluxe that I got from Mikey...it still is a mainstay of my originals band...
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
They are pretty hard to find here too, I was lucky to get mine when I did.
You may be interested to know there's *just* enough room in the control cavity under the pickguard to mount a tone control alongside the volume control.
They also have a huge neck tenon that extends about 2" past the end of the neck into the body (which makes it a good 5-6" long from the top of body). I'm not sure whether I believe all the mojo speak about long tenons but I guess it can't hurt!
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
I would never ever ever mount a tone control in that guitar, Tommy...I like the rawness of the P90 and would be afraid that anything in-line would harness the gloriously nasty sound. :D
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Ha ha, I guess you need a 5e3 to go with it then!
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
I bought this one new in 1972 - $269 out the door, including new (metal) tuners to replace the crappy plastic ones and a neck strap button installed. I love this old guitar...

Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Cheap guitar? This one cost me £160 delivered from Germany. The real test of a good guitar is how often you pick it up instead of your US or Mexican Fenders. Or Expensive Tokia Japan's! I really think, for the money, this is the best Guitar I ever bought... Where was it in 1975!!!!

Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Actually, my cheapest guitar is my only Tele.. A lowly '92 MIM toploader.
It's now got a bigsby, a filtertron in the neck, a Seymour Duncan APTL-1 in the bridge and everything but the tuners are changed.
They're really good tuners.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
Well if we're looking at personal items I got this 58 Texan for $100.

And this Cfox Napa Dreadnaught was a gift from Charles Fox so the cost was $0.

If we're talking currently available production stuff the DiPinto line is making some great instruments.
Re: your favorite cheap guitar?
I'm liking Chuck's bass and refin's Teiscos.
I recently had a chance to play a couple of Teiscos, the one's with the pickups Cooder and Lindley like, and damn it, they're onto something.
I'm trying not to faint over that $100 Texan! :wow
I had a DeArmond M77T, that had a lot going for it. Paid $265 for it.
If it was a hollowbody, it might have been my favorite guitar, period.
I like my MIK Dano Baritone too. It's currently in mid-mod mode. :wah:
Making a brass bridge saddle for it.

Yeah, I do love my fat chicks. They seem to appreciate me more... ;-)
