Is there a way to wire a strat middle pu with no tone control even in the 2/4 positions? Or will the middle pickup always be loaded down by the tone pot that is wired to the neck or bridge when in those positions?

sort of, but not really. all that to say that (i think) what you're shooting for is a to rewire the tone pots to be on the neck and bridge seperatley? it will somewhat be influenced by the other pup being wired to a tone pot, but not greatly. i do this personally, and i like the middle to be tone free, sounds better to my ears. granted i sink the middle pup! but that usually gives a better combo posish, and a better overall balance.
Doesn't the Jimmy Vaughan artist model use a wide-open middle pickup? You might take a look at the wiring diagram on the Fender.com website.

I've got it wired with MV/MT/Blender. The master tone is only wired to the bridge and neck pickups the middle is wide open, except for the 2/4 positions. In 2/4 the middle is connected to the neck/bridge on the same wiper and therefore is connected to the tone circuit. I think the only way to do what I am trying to do is with a superswitch.
it will always be influenced somewhat by the tone pot when in the combo posish.
