Ampeg Scramblers
Can anyone here actually come up with a real reason to use an Ampeg Scrambler? I have sold a couple of these for a fortune. I really have to laugh at the hideous noise they make when I've tried using them. I'm all ears if anyone can explain the demand for these to me.:bonk

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
i dunno, there's a time and place for just about any hideous noise.
having said that, i can live without that particular hideous noise if it's gonna cost me a G or more!

So the Ampeg Scrambler isn't a delicious breakfast dish? What does it do?

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
I've never knowingly heard one.
Supposedly the Scrambler was the sound of "Cactus" - featuring Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice.
I also heard somewhere it was the fuzz Jorma used with the Airplane, but I suspect it wasn't, since his fuzz sounds were pretty good.
Originals are extremely rare, just like a lot of other pedals that didn't have 'wide application.' Especially from a company that prided itself on 'clean sound.' I don't think they sold a lot of reissues, either.

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
I thought they were sonic abortions. I didn't even like them as a kid and back then I thought just about everything was cool.

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
Is it me, or is "Scrambler" not a real good name for a fuzz pedal?

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
There's supposed to be an octave component to the sound.
How bad could it be? :wah:

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
Hmm.
Maybe they decided to market lousy tracking.
"We'll call it scrambling."
I never heard of these things.
Maybe they're better suited to accordions.

Isn't the one of the funniest gear demos ever?!
Kind of makes me think of the MXR Bluebox except shitter and more useless if that's possible.
Tommy.

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
Sounds more like a Dan Armstrong Green Ringer I used to have.
I paid $7 for it. :wah:

Re: Ampeg Scramblers
There's an old Warner Bros cartoon where a mouse sneaks into a drug store after hours. I think he had a cold. So he glugs down a bunch of cough syrup.
Somehow an electric razor comes to life and he (it?) imbibes as well. They get fairly ripped and start singing "How Dry I Am."
Probably one of my favorite cartoons ever.
That pedal reminds me of that cartoon razor singing.
