Does Chaim Witz Use Flatwounds on his Axe Bass?
Just saw a video of his band doing "God Of Thunder," and, well, I'm curious about his bass tone.
:drac
I'd be kinda' disapointed to find out that he's one of those bassists who goes "direct." :brood:
Maybe it's all in his fingers. :wah:
Thanks, and keep on rockin!

I hate to be the one to break the bad news, but not only is he playing through a Bass POD... that battle-axe is short-scale.
The blood is "vintage correct," though.
Re: Does Chaim Witz Use Flatwounds on his Axe Bass?
That tears it then.
I'm glad:SaiyanSmi I thought twice about sleeping out for tickets.
To see a guy play a short scale bass through a Pod?
Not this dumbass.
Re: Does Chaim Witz Use Flatwounds on his Axe Bass?
Ok........ so, short scale.....pod......that's the positives, it's really downhill from there I quess.
Heard a snippet from Chris Squiers Swiss Squires, It's like the 70's sound with a hint of Viagra.
Re: Does Chaim Witz Use Flatwounds on his Axe Bass?
I've never been a big fan of Chiam's tone- however I've dug his lines since I was a kid. People like to put him down cuz he dresses like a dork- but beyond that he's got some really smart and melodic bass lines.
Re: Does Chaim Witz Use Flatwounds on his Axe Bass?
And I thought I would never see the words "melodic" or "smart" in reference to any member of KISS. :D

Chaim is one hell of a marketer. Easily the equal of anybody on Madison Ave.
Madison Ave. couldn't sell Zima, yet Chaim managed (and still manages) to sell KISS.
Much like stealing the last gram of Who Hash, he's figured out how to extract the last penny out of the die-hard KISS fan. Right down to the afterlife.

Again, separating the image of KISS and Chaim's bass lines (and bad bass tone) is the key.
I like comparing "Strutter" to Macca's "Silly Love Songs." The line is pretty similar, but serving entirely different functions- while Macca's lines are the melody in SLS, Witz' lines are the melody AND the movement of the song.
That comparison really pisses a lot of people off, but I honestly think it's a good comparison.
I'm not a huge KISS fan (and am a HUGE McCartney fan), but if you listen as objectively as you can- there's a lot of really cool stuff a lot of people completely overlook, solely because of the image.
