Help Me Find A Modulation Device That Won't Wreck My Sound

I need a modulation device that won't overtake my amp and turn it into a blender. _I got rid of my Dunlop for that reason; it was just a hog and wouldn't allow any room for tone or attack and squashed everything else. _Modulators are very tricky that way, they tend to be too domineering. _But I'm looking for one that TRULY is adjustable, allowing you to dial in the effect. _I like a sweet warm chorus or rotary that doesn't sound like a harsh cheap organ. _And I really need it to work well w/ a Boost or OD device w/o making the OD sound like a kazoo.

I use a Strat, 335 and an SG w/ P90s; primarily through JMI AC30s

Have you tried the TC "SCF"?

It's really expensive as a chorus box, but is, by far, the best chorus I've ever heard.

For me, "best" means "most transparent," the SCF is all that.

Sounds great in stereo or mono, too, which I can't say for many others.

I also used the Maxon CS-505, but it was the more traditional, thick analog chorus sound. I eventually got rid of it because of what you say--didn't work with overdrive AT ALL. It has a cool, built-in volume bump when you engage it (since chorus by definition will make your signal a little lower), but the bump was outrageous if I had overdrive on.

Try a Boss Dimension C DC-2....they are no longer made but do the job nicely....:tw59

I use an old boss CE-2 Chorus. I really like it. It is fuller and warmer than the later ones.

Gotta agree with Jack re: the TC Chorus/Flanger pedal. I just finished a recording project and I used several different choruses and other time-based effects in the studio. I used the TC (set for a slight modulation/detuning effect) for the clean rhythm guitar parts in a song called "Kicked to the Curb" (link to mp3 download on my webpage) and was really knocked out by the sound. Like all great analog effects, the pedal was very transparent and caused virtually no signal degredation. The unit is somewhat spendy (at $300.00) but worth the investment if you're after a pedal that delivers audiophile, studio-quality effects with all-analog circuitry. :cool:

Thanks for the tip on the TC Chorus, I'll have to try one. I've been using an old CE-2 borrowed from a friend.
