I need your opinions asap!!

Ya'll know I ordered an NOS seafoam green strat with matching headstock. Someone here, I can't remember who, suggested I get it with the sunburst painted underneath, like some of the originals, so that as it chips and wears, the sunburst will show, which could be real cool.

I found out today that I can do this without extra cost. The question is, should I? Would I miss out on the bare wood showing? Which would be cooler as it wears and chips?

I need to let them know asap so that I don't make the 6 month wait even longer.

I dunno, but that sounds like a lot of finish to put on a body IMO.

Heck, no; I wdn't. Then, again...I wdn't want seafoam green with a matching headstock; too close to the surf green jobbies done up special order for a diff forum, few years back. ;)

i dunno either, but i do know the thinner the finish the better!!

I would also say pass on the extra finish. I think it will rob tone from the guitar. Too much finish.

I think part of the reason relic's sound so good is the thin finish.

A few years ago I ordered a custom shop Strat in black hallowflake. That guitar had no tone whatsoever. I still think it was because to get it to sparkle they have to put on several finish coats.

As far as the color goes, seafoam green is cool and I like the matching headstock. It is your guitar so have it painted as you wish.

I wouldn't. I have a '57 and a '62 Reissue Strat and the paint finish on each one is chipped or worn off in very small spots. It's kind of startling to see how thin the finish is.

just what sort of abuse are you all doing to your axes to have the finish chip? this, i don't understand...seriously. is it in the inherent nature of the finish to just flake off on its own after a while or what?

Mine were that way when I bought them (from Guitar Center, nuff said). I keep my guitars in a case and polished. I got them CHEAP.

XO, interesting idea, but you got ask yourself if you're ever going to handle it in such a way or have it long enough for it to chip.

I'm with Tim, the less paint and lacquer, the better. Give the wood a fighting chance to breath (and dry out more).

Ken, that's nice, but I'm set on the sea foam, and a fender strat.
