The black bass is a Lull Vintage 4 that sounds like a great 70's J bass and is my best bass for slapping and plucking due I believe mostly to its aluminum bridge. The Alembic Exploiter is a great player as well. It has the piano tone as well and is effortless to play finger style. Missing are my mocha '74 P bass, my Teal Green Roscoe Beck 5, and my cheap Asin Dane 5 string fretless.

I remeber wanting a BC Rich badly after seeing Geezer Butler on the Black Sabbath "Mob Rules" tour. What a cool looking bass!

Winston, thanks for the compliment. BTW, just had the bridge pick-up in the photo rewound by Jim Rolph. It sounds great! The picture of the J bass was taken at an inn my wife and I went to for our anniversary last weekend.

This one is an EB6 from 1965. It's tuned to E like a guitar,you can fret it or play lead lines.

the restoration of the P bass is incredible too, I like the fact you didn't totally refin the body, but just "preserved" it. I'm digging the Bach soundclip you put up too!!

ps if you ever get that Bach thing transcribed, I'd love a copy, if that's possible?

I'm just learning bass, but it sounds like a great practice tune....would sound real nice in, say, Cathedral de Notre Dame through an SVT & 8x10 :)

*edit* -> well, I figured the first bit out, it sure is a finger stretcher going from the 3rd string D---->4th string C---->1st string E!! at least, for my gtr playing fingers :)

hmm, the Bach thing is a long term project. I kind of have most of the movements of that 1st suite in my head, I just need to refine them a little more to suit playing them on the Fender, and then write my versions out! I can't believe how interested people are, so I'll have to get happening, I think. Originally, I learned these from the 'cello parts and played them on five string, in their original keys, but when I started mucking around with them on the P bass, I had to transpose them to suit the range on the instrument.

anything sounds nice through one of those amps! I used one at a festival gig at the end of last year - I actually had to turn the "bass" knob back to about 10 o'clock! - the first bass rig I've ever done that with...

Yeah, pretty much. Bach wrote six suites for solo cello, and this is the first (in Gmajor). You might have to buy all six together - this is how I've always seen them published. I'll try to record my version of the prelude in the next few days...

Ken- THe jazz bass was assembled from wood I purchased from Tommy at USA Custom Guitars in Washington state. Scott Lentz (in the picture) is the person who did the finish and assembly. It is a great peice that cost be about a grand total. A comparable new Fender would have been a bunch more. The neck shape is a bit deeper than current J-basses. It's a good bass for sure.

gtrGhoul, is it me, or does Scott Lentz look annoyed in that picture?
