I was introduced to both Alembic tone and Stanley Clarke talent in one fell swoop, "School Days.

Yeah, check out stanley Clarke with Return to Forever together with Chick Corea and Al Dimeola.
Also, I think Alembic were the first to make "custom" basses with exotic woods in the early 70s.

I think DiMeola was playing a Les Paul back then. I don't know how many albums they all did together, but all those guys worked with lots of people on lots of different projects.
I've got the jones for their F-2B stereo tube preamp for my rack. It's based on the preamp section of a Fender Dual Showman and has got the best clean tone of any rack mounted preamp I have ever heard.

I had an Alembic just like the first, top guitar in your pic with the group of Alembics on the floor.
I had a weird XLR-type chord and a powered preamp thing.
It kicked my ass. The scale and the heavy neck caused me to sell it after only a few months.
But it had god-like tone!!

I have a couple but can't remember what they're called....."bears choice", "live dead", + couple others, but I don't know when they were recorded.....I would bet they weren't done with Rick Ruben in a big old mansion though :D
