Great amp troubleshooting site
I thought I'd pass this on - Steve Aloha suggested I give a looksee and sure enough it's a good tip...
http://www.geofex.com/ampdbug/ampdebug.htm Had some relatives over from 'Downunda' so I haven't been able to get back to that bugger of a 5F6A this afternoon - I did manage to shoot an email over to Steve and it turns out to be a real useful link... ![]() ![]()

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
Good to see ya. Rob.
I glanced at your earlier post but did not take the time to process it. I had too many irons in the fire at the moment. (See "Grilling Secrets"). ![]() Thanks for the tip, Bookmarked it. Looks like there are some updates there. |

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
I know about the irons thing - this daggone 5F6A is killing me - I've done how many HRDx and Dv conversions now but this is about my third attempt with the third set of iron and second board!!! It's gotta be the something in those damned Citec pots!!! I have - as I said - had one fail before - and it was a nightmare 'cause it actually measured OK both across the track and through the wiper but put it in the amp and no output - I've been using them for two reasons - they tin beautifully - none of this scratching the zinc plating off to get a good solder bond and I can just pick up the phone and get them next day from Farnell - but they'll be no f-ing good to me if they're that unreliable
![]() Yer - been busy as hell - gotta drop Roger and TJ a line when I can - this is crunch week - tell ya'll more when I've gotten through it ![]()

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
It may be just my designs, but I never ground to pots anyways.
I've had great results with star grounds built on turret risers. OTOH, I wouldn't redesign an existing amp on that philosophy. I sometimes get kicked in the pants over it but it is worth the effort in the end. |

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
Thanks for that link. I was just about to search the forum for info on my VR's new problem- ticking vibrato (it didn't do it a week ago)!
I'll look into his suggestions first. |

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
Update: Cygnus Lead-7 amp (don't ask, it's really the same as
before). After a bout of nasty flu and some serious inner ear infection, she's up and running! A Happy Birthday thread is well deserved for this one. As well as a detailed description of my small mistake amplified largely. ![]()

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
Hey, I never said thanks for posting this...I saved it in my "favorites" sidebar so it's always just a link away.
Great site, it's been very informative already! |

Re: Great amp troubleshooting site
That's about right! ![]() Let me dig up a link...there was a questionable reference for the name but it is the 4th one I've built like this. If you put "SEL" into the forum search you'll find a few links and pix. This is from the last one: http://www.thefenderforum.com/forum/...&highlight=SEL Working on a hardwood head cab... that part takes me forever. I have to clean out the garage to get to the wood working machinery!
