I hope it's okay to ask about non-Fender bass's issues.
The action is fairly low, but my E string clacks when I play it, even when I play it lightly. The neck doesn't appear to be bowed. Any ideas?

If we'd known we were going to be the Beatles, we'd have tried harder.--George Harrison
I find that this is the time of year I start to re-set thing up
could be minimal - need of relief, or add some height to the action.
I am a almost straight neck (slight relief) and moderately high action guy. no light touch here - but......I do have some finesse, with the stubby ol brick-layer hands.
It gives me better tone, feel I can use, ability to dig in, but not so much that it is hard to play. Its like that extra height allows the strings less tension?
YMMV......mirrors in the object......etc.......
