My old buddy Gary owns a 1966 Jazz Bass that the band chipped in to buy him back in 1973. It is all original, known good (he's the second owner and I was there when he bought it from Music Manor in Fort Wayne IN), everything in place except the pick guard (which he has, but it was celluloid and is too shriveled to put on the instrument anymore).
He stripped the finish because the previous owner has chipped it all up and stuck eagles on it, and it's a beautiful piece in bare alder with an oil finish.
Now he's thinking about a top-drawer refin, and wondering what he might get for it if he did.
Any Jazz experts care to take a stab? I'll bet it's a hell of a lot more than we paid for it in 1973 (anybody wanna guess the price with a hardshell Fender case?).
