    Original Coronado

This came across my path for a repair/setup yesterday...

You think a 335 is tough to work on electronically, this this is wild! I'm pulling out all my tricks to feed the wiring harness back into it's proper place without breaking any connection.Pickups sounded really good.

Update---finished cleaning all pots and jack, everything returned to it's proper place. The only casualty was the ground wire to the bridge;it broke off one of the pots.Since soldering was out of the question (I wasn't ABOUT to drop the harness again),I stripped the wiring on the ground wire back and wedged it in the hole with the front pup volume pot.Tight fit,and it is grounded perfectly!
Polished frets, oiled fingerboard, today it get's a setup. The guitar sounds good, only drawback is NO sustain at all up high on the neck.

I always thought they looked kinda cool. The remind me of an Eko, not very Fender at all.

    Re: Original Coronado

I bought 2 Coronado's years a go (one for me and one for my brother) and they looked very good (1966 in Orange) and played like a dream. The down fall was that there was no sustain at all so we sold them both. I still regret this because I realy liked the looks, playabillaty and the pickups.

    Absolutely NO sustain!
I hit a few notes above the 12th fret and they died almost immediately.

Eh, you don't always need that much sustain.
The guy to the drummer's left takes a tasty solo at about 1:10 in.

It's hard to find an old guitar with DeArmonds for a cheap price these days. Coronados fit the bill.

A guy down the street had a Coronado that I liked way back in high school. This was long ago when the terrible thunder lizards roamed the Earth.

But I don't remember his looking like this one. Did they change to a more offset waist kind of thing later? I guess his just looked more 'Fender-y' to me than the one in the top post.

Offset waist was probably a Starcaster.

Wow!! You just sent me on a tour of nostalgia land. That was my very first guitar that I played in my very first band when I was a young sailor in the Navy stationed in Puerto Rico. It was a Navy sanctioned club band and my only military duties were to play guitar and enjoy the "money for nothing and the drinks for free" in what was basically Jimmy Buffet land. It was a rough war but somebody had to live it.

Here's a picture of my Coronado II back then.

The Trilogy. I didn't get a say in it. They already had the name when I came on board. I never asked about it but looking back now I'm guessing maybe someone was into Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings"?

Oh by the way. The guy sitting at those drums (Larry Lee) got out of the Navy and went on to become the drummer and one of the founding members of "The Ozark Mountain Daredevils" who were a very hot band throughout the 70"s. He even wrote and produced a hit song back then called "Jackie Blue".

    Check it out.

Could be worse. I was trying to come up with something hippy/dippy/trippy, and failing.

Looks like everybody's having a good time, even with flood lights in their faces! Looks like a Hoefner bass too.

Why is the Bandmaster Reverb/Dual Showman Reverb facing the wall?

Bandmaster. But I really don't remember why it was reversed. I remember we had a guy that helped with sounding things out. Guess he thought that was the thing to do. Looking at it now I'm thinking he had it on a mic through the PA. Notice no stage monitors. Singers probably couldn't hear themselves with the amp facing them? Really can't remember though.

And how could I miss the groovy portaflex.

Can't really see your amp. What were you using there?
