    Fender Japanese MB-4 bass

I played a used Fender MB-4 bass today was made in Japan. It played well, had one big pluss this is the lightest bass I've ever played. The sound was OK the pickups seemed a little week, but it sounds better than the the Epiphone I'm playing now (a P bass copy). I'm not much of a bass player yet but I'm thinking about really working on it and getting better. The shop where I was playing this had it listed for $199.00 with no case. Anyone have any expereinces with this bass, what are the pros and cons. Is this a decent price for this instrument used (I don't think they are available new anymore).

I'd offer them $150, but if it plays nice, $200 doesn't seem out of the question.

Do those have a p/j pickup config? If so, there's a set of EMG's brand new listed on The Pit for $70 shipped. LINK

You could have a kick ass setup for under $300.

    Succumb to the gas....... :)

I was thinking of offerring them a little less than the $200.00. I think I'll try the $150 offer and see if they bite. The front pickup is the split type like on a P-bass and the rear bridge pickup is the jazz bass style.

Yeah, offer $150. You have to start the negotiations somewhere....

Also, when you go, take just $200 with you. Put $175 in one pocket, and the other $25 in the other. If the negotiations settle at around $175, pull it out, and say - "that's all I have, $175 out the door". They will most likely bite on it. If not, you have a bit in reserves.

Good luck! Make sure you post lots of pictures when you bring her home.

I'm guessing it's basswood? I haven't been able to find out much information about them only that they were only made in Japan, and Fender dropped the line after only a couple of years. Well the store should be open guess I had back check it out some more, and see if I can talk them down.

Well I guess I procrastinated too long. Just got back from the store and someone else bought it. Wouldn't you know it's been there a couple of weeks that I know of. I finally decide to go get it and the day I go to buy it someone else did. I had some misgivings about it being as light as it was, and I'm sure I would have wanted to replace the pickups.

Sorry to hear that someone "stole" it from you. There's more out there, a special one will eventually follow you home.....
