    I know about powering up..

That the tubes should simmer for about 90 seconds before you turn off the standby switch and cook them, BUT what about "Cool Down" after playing. Should the reverse be done. I mean, should you power down on standby and let the filiments cool down for a cpl minutes before powering off the amp?

Just shut it off anyway you like.

Wait a few minutes before you bring the amp outside if it's cold out.

I always let my amps "idle down" in standby mode for at least five mikes before switching them completely off after a gig or rehearsal. An' I wait another five or so before puttin' the cover on it.

Jus' mah way of doon thangs (for the last forty years). YMMV

    Two really bone headed questions...

    What is "HTH"

    And what is "YMMV"?

BTW, I let it cool down with the standby in Play position. I think it helps drain the caps. I have not experienced capacitor wear since doing this. But, on the other hand, today's caps may be much better than those old caps too.

    HTH = Here's To Health

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

I power down the amp, then flick the standby back on, the other way round gives a loud popping.

BTW () I always thought that HTH meant Hope This Helps (mind you, I've never LOL'd, ROFL'd or LMAO'd in my life, so what do I know )

I never use the standby and my vintage amps always work fine.

    Just saying.

Re: I know about powering up..

I always use the standby when not playing, and always in the off position when powering up.

One of the reasons it is there is to prevent cathode stripping, where current hits the tube before it has enough heater current.

Playing whlie the amp is powering up or down, no matter how groovy it sounds, is stripping the cathodes.

Outside of that, I don't worry too much.
