    Esquire wiring ideas

So, I'm setting my green Tele up as an Esquire for a while.

What readily available caps would make for a more useable sound than Leo's "preset bass sound?"

    I think I have some .047's and .022 uF's.

Another idea I have is maybe just making that switch position "off."
Not much of an idea, but, what the hay?

Bearing in mind the holding the soldering iron, is there anything else I could try?

i've never fiddled with an esquire wired that way, mine are usually like a les paul junior. but it would seem to me that changing the caps would effect the sound also.

I'd bet you could get some funky stuff going if you want to wind an inductor.....

Neo, after slinging an Esquire live for a few years, if I had to do it over again I would simply brigde the center and preset positions together. I never use the preset but have ended up there by mistake a few times and blew a few bars figuring out what was going on. If I could find a two-position switch that looked stock I would just go with that.

Maybe flip the preset and the center positions?

Might make for some groovy switch-flip sounds, too.

Did you read the last sentence of my post?

Maybe the middle possition could be off/mute. I don't typically do any of that Townsend stutter thing, but...

OA- A 2-position switch would simplify things.
Maybe I could modify the switch. Block the front contact position so it can't "flick" that far. That way there's no dead spot.

    Hmmm...

If you do it, ground/short the pickup's hot wire, don't just leave it unconnected.

You could create different types of filters than your typical treble rolloff.

IIRC, Refin wired one up in an unconventional way using different value caps, and he was pleased with the result. You may want to ping him?

i meant to say resistors, cause then you could shift the frequencies of what's being rolled off.

I'd just jumper the middle and neck so they are the same.
